Default Discussion with Tanner Foust at Formula D

Well, I sent this to the Viper, but he urged me to post it so I joined up. This looks like the right place. I've been here for years but never joined the forums for some reason... oh well, you can never be a member of too many online car enthusiast forums! lol

Here's what I wrote to Viper since I don't really feel like typing it all over again.

Not sure if this is news or not, but I thought I'd throw it your guys' way. I was at Formula Drift yesterday in Monroe, WA and aside from it being very wet and pretty much awesome as usual, I ran in to Tanner Foust in the pits while talking with Michihiro Takatori and we got to talking. First about the X-Games, but then it moved on to Top Gear.

"So, you're hosting the American version of Top Gear, right?"

And then a very long discussion involving the filming of the pilot ensued. Tanner Foust assures me that they made a believer out of a lot of people in the studio that day, including a bunch (80% according to Foust) of the audience who were members of the finalgear.com community. He told me that no one has EVER told him once to hold back on comments about any car he drives. He also made a note of telling me that he was a driver first and an actor second, so if he IS ever playing up a car for sponsors we'll probably be able to tell. Foust was pretty tight lipped on specific details of the pilot, but says that there was some pretty over the top stuff filmed and that the chemistry between the hosts is: "At least at about a 4th season Top Gear level.". Now there's one question I had to ask, even though I already knew what the answer was going to be...

"So, who's The Stig?"

"I can't tell you that, you'll never find out."

"Not even any hints?"

"Let's just say I hand picked him myself, he's a very good driver."

Huh.... So Tanner says he picked the Stig himself...

Anyone else see the pilot of "Supercars Exposed"? Townsend Bell anyone?

Just a thought...

I thought I recognized your name from MR2OC. images/smilies/welcome.gif Most of the TGUSA reports from people who went were all very positive, so we're pretty pumped.

... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

I highly doubt that Agent John Doggett is going to be the Stig.
