Default Just saw Adam Corolla for the first time

He was just on the Leno show. He's AWFUL. Terrible. Irritating and not funny. Jay was obviously annoyed with him. He would have completely soiled the TG name and I'm glad NBC didn't pick up the show.

Thank goodness... I thought I was the only one.

He actually reminds me of Ken Rockwell with his nasally voice and douchbaggish demeanor.

(if you don't know who KR is, do yourself a favour and kill yourself before the idea pops into your head to look him up)

A couple threads ago somebody said this about AC:

Quote:
Adam is likely full of shit and/or ego.
I fired back with these lines:

Quote:
if you've ever seen The Man Show... or had the misfortune to listen to his podcasts or radio show... this is like, the understatement of the decade.

Seriously, I do not understand what people in see in Adam to make them think he's some kind of great comedian, actor, or whatever. Given of what I know of the guy and have seen in the past, I'm more likely to believe that TG-America was too awful to watch if he says it was good.
Part of me understands AC's appeal. He's rude, crass, obnoxious... the perfect television host for the sort of chap that only focus's on the parts of a lady below the neck. Granted, in the same way I understand the appeal of 2 The Ranting Gryphon and Howard Stern. Obviously there's a market for people who put their brains in the gutter... and stay there.

In all fairness, Top Gear UK has had their fair bit of mind in the gutter moments... like "Arse Biscuits" and "Pussy Hat" on the side of car doors... and Richard's innocently delivered "Why would somebody have to stand close to a urinal... OOOOOOOHHHHH"

Sometimes I wonder if I gloss over such incidents from TG-UK (and TG-Aus) because they are from different countries... but... there's a stylized difference. When the TG-UK and TG-Aus guys do stuff that's just pressing the limits (James's Meat Tray for example)... it's pretty much in the line of something that a ten-year old would find hilarious. The sort of school-boy humor.

AC's style of humor... it's delivery... it's never been innocent. It's never been for laughs.

On the other hand, that's probably why he was tapped for Top Gear America... because most television executives see the stuff that he does, and that the other Top Gear guys do as being exactly the same... when the intentions, motivations, and deliveries couldn't be more different.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think the difference is between crass and "naughty." The TG3 are naughty. Adam is just rude. There absolutely IS a difference and it's why I don't like Adam. I didn't like him on Loveline and he hasn't endeared himself to me since. It's funny, all the reasons I don't like him (like his annoying ability to throw the word penis into ANY conversation), all occur on TG but in a much, much more subtle and funny way. I feel like a hypocrite sometime!

If you get offended by Corolla then shame on you, really. Most of his stuff is dead on, as opposed to Clarkson who just spouts the first thing that pops into his head. People just don't like truth any more...

if I wanted to be offended while listening to truth, I'd turn on Michael Savage.

Dead on? That's like saying that Fox news is a reputable news source.

really bad example.

Fox News is a reputable news source.

Your example would be better stated: Dead on? That's like saying anybody but Fox is reputable in news.

The problem Fox has is that the Associated Press, Reuters, Microsoft-NBC, NBC, CBS, and NBC are run by extreme left-wing socialists... which is evidenced first of all by campaign contributions, comments by executives about elected officials and officials running for office, and corroborated by personal comments from executives in each company. With a liberal democrat viewpoint dominating the vast majority of televised and radio news, Fox's attempts to be neutral stand out.

This is also why most of the broadcast media is loosing ad-space and revenue, and why Fox continues to dominate television and radio ratings. It's a catch-22 situation. The only people who are willing to pay everybody but Fox for content are liberal democrats. So everybody but Fox has to cater to the liberal democrat point of view.

This isn't to say Fox gets a free pass. As a corporation, Fox itself tends to be just as much a slimeball as it's broadcast cousins. Simpsons and King of the Hill come to mind as examples. Of course, Fox's duality is also seen in shows like 24.

***

Also, mods, sorry if this is a bit more politically charged than these forums are intended to be. Slights against Fox for their reporting accuracy bother me as a journalist.

^lose is spelled with one o. As a journalist, you should be bothered by your inability to spell that correctly.

clarkson himself said he (adam) was funnier than he was. Not to mention he has one of the highest rated and most popular podcasts on itunes. I like the guy and he is absolutely hillarious in person but he does need better writers for broadcast tv stuff.

I think he was pretty funny, and Jay was acting annoyed as part of the bit.
