He is a car guy, any celebrity who takes the time to do an interview for a rinky dink hard core racing magazine like Grassroots Motorsports has to be.

Again, he has BRE Datsun 510 with a super rare FJ20DE engine...the father of the revered SR20DET!

The end!

Actually those aren't rare, just uncommon, and never sold in the US. I still say they are better looking engines though (and lighter).

on topic: I think that Adam is a great selection if they just let him say whatever he wants. I still have fear that they wont.

i also found it terribly distressing that on the podcast, no one seemed to give half a shite about Adam being on the show while there was all kinds of interest in Dancing with the Stars. American TV is, really, mostly encumbered by a semi-retarded populace (of which i'm part of, i suppose). That Dancing with the Stars and American Idol are big shows while shows like Serenity are unceremoniously kicked off the air should be proof enough of that.

At least we may get back Dog the Bounty Hunter soon...

Corolla was great on Loveline where his obnoxious sense of humor was great when combined with the stoic Dr. Drew and 15 year olds asking about how to take their 27 year old boyfriends ****** up their ***. But it's not what I was hoping for as a host on an American TG. I'll give him, and the other hosts, a fair shake. But this is not a good sign images/smilies/mellow.gif

My concern with the American version is that the show might be inclined to show cars in a positive light just because of advertisers whereas Top Gear is free to rip on whoever they want. Typically with shows like "Motorweek" or any of the shows on Speed, any criticisms are fairly light compared to Top Gear, which is free to say they'd rather "Have bird flu than drive one of those." Oh well, I guess I'd rather have low taxes with advertisers footing the bill rather than ridiculous taxes in order to not be at an advertiser's will.

This has nothing to do with Adam Carolla, and has been discussed to death in every other thread in this section.

I've been following Adam Carolla for a number of years, and he is a self proclaimed gear head and has the credentials to back up that claim.

Over the years on Loveline and The Adam Carolla show he has discussed his passion for sports cars. While attending North Hollywood High School, he and his friends would race down the Pacific Coast Highway in his friend, the "weeze" 's car. If you recall, this is the famous highway where Swedish criminal Stefan Erikson crashed the Ferrari Enzo. Over the years Adam has mentioned on several occasion's how when he was in high school, he would stop by an exotic car dealership in Hollywood in order to stare at the Lamborghini Muira in the window. After graduating from North Hollywood High School he worked as a carpenter, as his parents never pushed or supported him in going to college (nor did they help him in purchasing a car while in highschool or after). As a carpenter he didn't make much money, and because of his profession he was forced to drive a pickup truck. He was always worried about someone stealing his truck because you need to own a truck in order to work a variety of jobs in Los Angeles, so work trucks are often stolen. He rigged his truck with a fuel cut-off switch so it would run out of gas after 500 yards, and then when his vehicle was stolen (which happened three times) he would then merely have to pick a direction in which to walk to find his car. Furthermore, Adam claims that he never had automobile insurance when he started driving. He would purchase it only when he absolutely needed it, such as in times of a ticket or something else major, but otherwise he never purchased insurance. He was also a comedy driving school instructor for a number of years, which required that a took an extremely comprehensive written examination covering every possible aspect of driving and automobile safety.

Adam with Art at Pebble Beach 2007, the nose of Adam's DB9 can be seen in the photo.

His first sports car was a 1984 Toyota Supra, which had no air conditioning, which he modified himself to have air conditioning. As his comedy career took off he began to purchase a number of sports cars. Over the years he has owned a Porsche 911, Audi A4, Subaru STi (on loan from Subaru), Aston Martin DB9, Datsun 510, and a Lamborghini 350GT (which he bought as an investment after watching the prices of the Lamborghini Muira go through the roof). He believes the 350 GT will appreciate in value because of the small number of cars produced (120). He has owned other amazing cars, however I can't remember all of them at this moment.

This is true. My brother and I ran into him and his friends at Waterloo station in London last June. At first we couldn't believe it was him, and we wondered what he was doing there. Turns out all of us were headed to Paris on the Eurostar, and we ended up in line right behind him. We chatted for a bit, and he said he was on his way to Le Mans, and that Paris "is a lovely city." Having recently pulled a Top Gear marathon, I should have used the Le Mans connection to talk about cars, but Adam boarded the first class car on the train, looked at us and was like, "you lads in steerage class?" We nodded our heads and said goodbye.

Carolla's a nice guy, though. I'm sure he'll give it his all with 'Gear'. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think he's perfect for this sort of thing. And even though he hasn't made a career out of being a legendary car journalist like Clarkson, he is ultra-opinionated in very much the same way Jeremy is. Hopefully that will be enough. The real test might be in finding suitable co-hosts, however.

i vote for Jay Leno.

my reason: "ching, chong" sketch associated with carolla (heard about it on the news).

would anyone on real top gear actually let that happen for a whole sketch?
