It should be very entertaining/informative if they can get a stereotypical, NASCAR/pushrod-loving redneck as a counter balance images/smilies/tongue.gif

You can bet your ass that Carolla, if put on the show, wouldn't hesitate for a nanosecond to speak his mind. He comes off as a brutally honest guy. Now if you are talking about the powers that be.....well that's a-whole-nother can of worms right there.

Carolla, who isn't that well-known to begin with, has to be given credit for owning a vintage Datsun racer alongside that vintage Porsche 911T Carrera RS replica, and to be mentioned in a small yet dedicated magazine such as Grassroots Motorsports means that he's more dedicated than, oh I dunno, 50 Cent.

For some reason, I can't imagine Val Kilmer devoting his time and attention to "the car [that] was featured in Nissan’s “Dream Garage” ad campaign of the late ’90s."
Thank you BlaRo.

From what we know of about Carolla and his cars, it would be outrageously idiotic to think that Carolla is NOT a "car guy." images/smilies/lol.gif

Datsun 510

Lamborghini 350GT

E46 M3

Yup, it is CLEARLY evident that Carolla has no passion for cars and simply has too much money to burn. LOL

I for one am elated he's involved with the program. I've been listening to Loveline for years and his morning show is really hitting it's stride. Carolla, more then any other person in show business, truly has the gift of gab. He's funnier then any comedian on the fly, easily. I've listened to him talk about cars multiple times during random rants on Loveline and I could tell he would be a good choice.

The next guy I think they should consider is Jeremy McGrath.

Default Racist?

Just listened to Adam Carolla's MP3 podcast about his European car trip.
Is it just me or is this guy a racist pig?

He's not racist, but he also doesn't care about being politically correct.

It could never be equally good as the original... cause the British version is so unique and that US are just coping that. You can never find another JK.

At first, I was scared about Carolla being the choice for a host, but after listening to his podcast on his trip to Europe, I think he might be a good choice.

He's not Clarkson, but he's probably one of the best choices they could have made for the American market, he has the car passion and the attitude that could work well. (Anyone who knows Nascar isn't the only form of racing can't be all bad)

I'll have to watch and see...

No one is saying that. What they're saying is, give the show a chance, Carolla or no Carolla. Just because you dislike the guy doesn't mean that the show will suck. Rather than jumping to unfounded conclusions because of his involvement, why not wait and see what the actual show is like? Remember: it's not Adam Carolla Presents Gear. It's Gear and one of the hosts happens to be Adam Carolla. At this moment, that's all we know about the show. Condemning it based on that alone is just kinda silly.

Well, I figured Carolla had to be in the running. I'm glad to see it because he is a genuine car guy.

However, yes, he is annoying to listen to, and his humor is toilet level. However, paired with someone LIKE Jay Leno, a straight man who knows technically more, it could work, kind of like mixing up the Clarkson/May dynamic. And being the laid back straight man fits into Leno's public persona and image. However, I don't know if he'd co-host a show with Carolla, who is BFF with Jimmy Kimmel, Jay's late night competition -- and the person who he could replace if he stays in the late night arena after his current gig at NBC is up. There's also a weird Howard Stern Show dynamic here (Carolla and Kimmel are friends of Howard; Howard is openly pissed off at Jay Leno for stealing "Stuttering John" Melendez; now this past week he's outraged because Stuttering John openly dissed him on Carolla's radio show, Carolla was panicked that he may have burned Stern).

(For those who don't follow, the late night talk show host position is a soap opera. Back before dinosaurs there was Johnny Carson. David Letterman followed him and wanted Carson's gig when he retired. Only Leno got it and Letterman went to a rival network in disappointment. It's happening all over again; Leno was supposed to retire and the guy who follows him, Conan O'Brien, was supposed to take his show. Only now Leno doesn't want to go, so either (a) Conan will take his show to another network if Jay stays, or (b) Leno will take his show to a rival network if Conan gets Jay's old show. They have openly said Kimmel may be squashed if Leno leaves NBC).

Actually, Kimmel and Leno are friends. During the writer's strike, they put that rivalry aside, met up, and became friends basically. They even appeared on each others shows.

Well, first he pronounced "Porsche" the way dumb Nascar viewers do -- Porshhh.

He does prononce LeMans correctly.

He says he had to go to Europe to find real racing -- does he not know about ALMS? This guy has to know about SCCA road racing too, right? Maybe he was just dumbing down the story for radio.
