I am very cautiously optimistic about him... Did you hear him at all on Loveline on the radio? Every now and then I'd catch a bit of it, mostly recognizing that nasal voice and listening for a second- when he rants about stupid people (sometimes, including himself), annoying and idiotic things that go on in the world, etc, it's very good and quite funny. After the rant would end, my radio would get turned off. Thus the cautious optimism... as you said, the rest of it is just crude. Not interested.

*sigh* But in any case, it's a shame we have to wait for (as it stands) nearly half a year to actually see if we like the guy. On the other hand, I was excited about Tanner Foust from the start, so if anything it'll be cool to see him in TG context... in six months. images/smilies/dry.gif

That was just... messed up. Surreal and messed up. Really well edited, too. I liked it.

The Hammer was very good as well. Not brilliant, but better than any of the Clarkson DVDs I've seen.

The guy I'm worried about is FaustFoust. He's got the wooden MTV dialogue thing going on about 95% of the time, as though whomever he's talking to has to carry the conversation. But I'm sure he's more than cute enough to keep the female viewers fully lubricated, even if he doesn't have much personality.

That's exactly why I don't like him, I found that in no way funny. "I can cut the cheese" images/smilies/rolleyes.gif They staged and wrote the whole scene and that's the funniest thing they could think of? A fart joke?

That's kind of the point. It's funny because it's not funny. Carolla's being an over-the-top try-hard but the cops just aren't reacting to it at all -- no laughing, no eye rolling. And Carolla's not reacting to the cops not reacting. It's far more subtle and surreal than just a fart joke and a Tony Montana impersonation.

Stromer (the HGTV pretty boy) and Carolla have good chemistry -- Stromer's a frequent guest on Carolla's radio show -- and Stromer has a good sense of fun and is a team player. Plus he's comfortable in front of the camera.

The video here is entertaining:

I can't remember what car show it was, but they showed one of Adam Carolla's old Nissan race cars that he had restored. The interview with him was great, and I am excited to see him on Top Gear. Don't judge him based on his man show hummor.

I believe that was Paul Newman's car.

People say that Howard Stern is nothing but a filthy racist sexist humorless pig that relies on filth and pre-pubescent humor to get a meager following. These people know this because they don't actually listen to his show. I listen every day and yes, there is a good amount of adult humor and content, as well as some immature humor, but that's not what the show, and most certainly what Howard himself, is about.

I think Adam will be good, but I'm also not afraid to say he's terrible for the job if that turns out to be true because I'm doing this crazy thing some people are into called reserving judgment.

That's about 6 more months. I knew American TV was slow, but I had no idea as to the true extent of the problem.
The article that was cited in reference to that was written in May. A lot may have changed since then, especially since they hadn't even shot the pilot by that point. It's merely listing it as a mid-season replacement which, as stated, could be as early as January. It could even be sooner, since America's Got Talent just ended it's run.

Did any of you carolla haters actually see the pilot? Were you there for the taping? I was. And while I had similar reservations concerning carolla, he surpassed all of my expectations. I really think the show will be good and the presenters are well suited for the job. Honestly, I went into the taping thinking of all the ways it WILL be bad and left feeling great about the show. Give it a chance and I bet it will surprise you images/smilies/cool.gif

I'd love to see the pilot, to be honest. Think that'll be the first episode they show?

From what Andy the producer said.....I don't think the pilot will be episode #1 but it will be used sometime during the season. Who knows? I certainly hope it ends up being the first show because my wife and I got lots of "screen time" right behind Carolla during many of the segments images/smilies/tongue.gif

Was it never specifically stated in the pilot that it was the first episode?

Hey I didnt like Charlie Cox on Top Gear Australia, but by the second episode I started to warm to him, maybe Adam will be the same?

At least wait until the pilot/first season. The original Top Gear realized Jason Dawe was crap and brought in Cpt. Slow. If Corolla really is that bad then they'll do something about it, though I doubt they'll need to.
Have you seen the "Man Show"? 'nuff said......
