Default Overseas Broadcasting?

What makes Top Gear such a success is the fact that it is broadcasted all over the world and has a potential audience of over a billion people. I was just wondering does anyone know what countries Top Gear Australia will be broadcasted in other than Australia?

Interesting question. Usually the country that Australian shows do well in is Britain (think Neighbours and Home and Away which are almost more popular there than they are in Australia) but they already have the original and aren't likely to take to a foreign version.

They may show it in between UK Top Gear seasons though.

Especially if any Neighbours stars have a go in the reasonably-priced car. images/smilies/lol.gif

If TGA is shown anywhere other than Australia and New Zealand, it's most likely to be on specialised cable/satellite channels dedicated to cars and motoring. That said, if Americans are still cuckoo for all things Australian, then there might be a remote chance that BBC America could give it fly. Of course this is just pure speculation, fresh from my arse to your screen. images/smilies/tongue.gif

Im not sure where you get that impression as most Americans ive spoken too on the net know next to nothing about Australia.

On another note since the people who make Top Gear are also helping in the production of TGA im kind of hoping that the BBC will broadcast Top Gear Australia.

Americans haven't cared about anything from Australia since the Crocodile Hunter died, which was also when many Americans learned his name was Steve Irwin.

Well, looks like TGA won't be showing up on BBC America any time soon, then.

You'd think that if Freehand/SBS or whoever it is that owns/manages the rights to TGA reckons there's a dollar to be made overseas somewhere, they'd sell the series to whoever wants to buy it. I guess the fun bit is working out who'd buy it.

I reckon Dave in the UK is a good bet for TG Aus. I suspect BBC Worldwide will end up with the rights to the series (not SBS) and Dave is co-owned by BBC WW.

Another good channel for it could be BBC3 or BBC4. Secondary channels.

Im also looking forward to the AU version more than the US version.
