You so know Nine isn't going to have them anyway, lol.

No matter who edits the export versions of TGUK, something gets tossed and, for car fans at least, the show suffers. I can't imagine Nein asking for anything but the shortest edit available. So I doubt I'll be watching TGUK on 9 or even any of the new TGOZ series - they'll spoil those too. Thank goodness for broadband.

One thing I find interesting in reading a few tech forums is the total disdain most male Australian TV viewers have for Ch9, whereas I actually have the $&^%'s with all the commercial channels. Anyway, sad news for car fans.

BIG QUESTION????????

As nein now has digital channels will they be doing the same as sevnis with Fifth Gear and putting it on digital 2????

Lets hope so cause then it will have a better time slot and they won't have to shorten it at all!!!!!!!!!

Lets be positive and hope that is what happens.

OK better get going to Aldi to by another HD set top box for $79

It occurred to me they may use this as a flagship for GO! - That's the only hope the shows have frankly.

If that doesn't happen, then this probably marks the end of Top Gear & Top Gear Australia on free to air TV in Australia - it is a shockingly bad decision based only on $'s, is hugely cynical, and treats us, the audience with no respect whatsoever.

Nine (or nein) has absolutely no respect at all for any of their shows let alone their viewers, so we can only hope that BBC Worldwide did their homework and have tied Nine into such a tight contract with so many obligations (maintaining a good timeslot, putting X number of episodes to air for y years, producing X years worth of Top Gear Australia, not commercialising its content so TGA becomes an(other) advertorial, keeping the same car loving hosts etc etc etc) that the risks associated with the move are minimised.

I guess this means we won't be seeing series 14 in high definition after all.

^ problem is, I personally, along with most of the people in my area, am unable to get Go!/the digital versions of nine. It is something to do with the combination of the antennas we have installed and the fact that our area doesn't get great 9 reception. And no, digital set top boxes don't help. I wouldn't be surprised if a fair few people are in a similar situation elsewhere. It will definitely cause complaints if they do that. And Top Gear alongside Gossip Girl and the likes makes me feel sick images/smilies/sad.gif

Give it a go on Nine, you fools.

Top Gear uk will still be the same as it was on SBS, with adverts in the wrong spots. Top Australia, needs nine for it too work, SBS, doesn't have the pull power with the Adverts. More Adverts mean more money is spent on the show, which means that it will be better than the trash SBS, delieved on Top Gear Aust.

And if you have problem with not picking Nine, up, its your problem and not Nine. Most Australians couldn't watch Top Gear cause it was on SBS, which has the worst output signal than any other network.

^ actually, nine's adverts go for about 15-20 mins per hour. SBS was 10 (claimed 5). So it will actually cut out more. Goodbye Cool Wall, goodbye news, probably goodbye a few good chunk of segments too. And more adverts means more money to nine, not to the program itself necessarily. Top gear will most likely end up funding more episode of Two and a Half Men more than anything *shudders*

And I couldn't pick up SBS until we got Foxtel digital and we have to watch it through there which isn't great. But it still better than a major commercial broadcaster who can't get a decent signal out to a large majority of Australia's biggest non-capital city. It's not just digital, we get shit analogue too. Not on, I'm sure that Eddie and Packer could spare a couple million to fix it up, but nooooooo.

Don't wish for it to be on Go! Go! is horribly bit starved & blocky as hell. The xvid version with a bit of FFDShow tweaking would easily beat it for PQ.

James Packer doesn't own Nine anymore. He's a casino mogul now.

Nine, along with other media outlets, such as ACP Magazines, ninemsn and Sky News Aus is owned by CVC Asia Pacific

I hope Kerry is turning in his grave from what his son is doing to his businesses. And his money.

Actually, it is only 5 minutes of "advertising". The other 5 minutes is made up of advertising for SBS, I believe that's how it works.

That's my point. TGA is going to fester unloved in the cesspool of channel 9 shows whereas on SBS it was tended to and loved like the superstar child it is. It's doomed.

Yeah, dad told me that when i asked him. Dad thinks he's a moron, given he put his biggest casino venture on the wrong side of a street or something and that is why he's losing money. That and he's launching casinos during a global recession. Probably a good thing nine is rid of him.

Hi Brydiem. You say "... on SBS it was tended to and loved like the superstar child it is." That's just not true. If it was, why hasn't there been a third series yet? The answer is obviously that SBS haven't loved Top Gear Australia enough to find the money to make a new series.

Besides, the show was constantly being criticised while the first two series were on air anyway. Maybe the move to Chanel Nine will be a disaster, but let's not gild the lilly. SBS haven't done much good for it since they've had it. It's never turned into an amazing show and that's always been the great shame. It should have and could have been a fantastic show but it has only been average at best.

Final point, if SBS has kept the ball rolling and kept the BBC (and the audience) happy, they wouldn't have made it available to new bidders.
