I just had my episode delivered by a little green martian through my bedroom window. I'm just about to watch it now.

For those who don't know about the Ford F-150, it's the most popular truck in the US. Everybody drives one. American men usually love to say Ford is crap, Dodge is crap, Chevrolet is crap, and make a whole day's debate over it. IMO, they're all crap. They're simply engineered flatbed pickup trucks that just "does the job" and nothing else.
Those in the industry buy the larger F-250 turbo diesel that has some outrageous torque output. (It's enough to trail a fat bloated American AND his passenger! images/smilies/lol.gif )

Did y'all notice that Richard Hammond got to do a lot in this episode? He reviewed the new Monaro, did the Bull Run, reviewed the Murcielago Roadster and even got to do the entirely pointless voice over commentary during the Stig's lap that Jeremy usually does. He also got to talk about his M4 map/sights book and do the Cool Wall with Jeremy.

I hope this isn't an indication of things to come in Season 7, i.e. Jeremy taking more of a backseat role due to his back problems or a desire to distance himself from TG!

The funniest thing I spotted was when Jeremy said there was an embargo on discussing the AMV8 Vantage, which meant he couldn't say anything until the 30th of August, James looked at his watch !!!! (OK, he was probably checking the date, but I thought it was terribly funny) images/smilies/lol.gif

I didn't think Hammond did more than normal apart from Stig's lap commentary, which I did think was unusual at the time.

Overall not a bad show, not the worst though. I think it would have been hard to beat last week's.

Thanks KryptonZone.

I agree it was a letdown. It looked all cool and well-informed as he was transcribing the notes on that chalkboard, playing with his little gay keyboard and using his (perfect?) sense of pitch to pick notes out of exhaust noise. Then when he was sitting down with the sound engineers I thought this could sound really good...but it just sucked.

It was still an interesting segment but the result was awful. Maybe if he'd allowed the sound engineer to "tweak" the notes so they were spot-on it would've sounded better but he would also need to normalize the volumes of the different engines, etc, etc.

I can take the America bashing, but really, who are the British to talk about inbreeding? I mean, come on, let's start with just the Royal Family and proceed from there if neccessary.

I think it was just American car bashing. Jeremy made the point that we buy American movies and fizzy drinks. Heh. And also, most of my American friends spend their time making inbreeding jokes about rednecks and the South. This was no different.

i was trying to foregot that british people were stuck up snobes Jeremy clarkson screwed that up BIG time images/smilies/thumbdown.gif but then i remember that if it wasent for top gear i wouldnt know what a pagini zonda was or what a Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren sounds like so i forgive some of the America bashing but in this episode he crossed the line anyway my blackness will not permit to bang my own cousin images/smilies/lol.gif

Apprently there are more F-150's than us australians... Well now that i know that i feel so much better.
Good ep, but it just couldn't top last week's. May's song was funny, especially the fart note!! I wouldn't mind to having the full version just so i can set it as the ring tone on my phone.

Not one of the greatest ep's, but even an average to good TG ep is damn good.

It was a great season, autumn's (spring for us antipodeans) not far off I suppose images/smilies/smile.gif

Edit: Nope I changed my mind - really good episode, see my other post.

Great ep.

I would have loved to hear something about the new Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Top speed, something about the ride or about the engine noice. But I quess I just have to wait until the next season. Looks great though!

The Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster review was stunning... after the bull run- part. Lambo starting up in that big garage got me on goose bumbs. Those supercar roadster roofs just won't work in real life, as Richard pointed out..

They didn't even bother putting the new 3- series on the cool wall.. images/smilies/lol.gif And they're right! It's a boring car and even more boring as a BMW. The previous 3- series was much better looking. Much, much better.
It's sad they're dropping the Monaro.. it's a great car. Even though they don't sell it here in Finland.

And what's this Ford F150?!? Who in the world want's to buy that! Look at the interior... it's rubbish!! Even those old Toyota and Suzuki pick-ups from the -80's have better interior trim.

OMG!

I just watching the music segment, and I can't believe what James is doing! The Enzos tires were screaming, and you have to go quite hard to make them...
And then he does a 180° burnout in the Alfa!!!

We got the next oversteer guy, just in case Jezzas back isn't ok until the next filming!!!

You can always buy an F150 for under $1000 here. Nobody really wants one, so they sell really cheap, with low miles. I think it's a Ford conspiracy of some kind, because I don't know anyone that actually owns one, but it seems like they are every fifth vehicle on the road around here.

Regarding the F150...

I haven't seen the episode yet but it sounds like they reviewed the Lightning (supercharged 2wd "race truck"), which hasn't been produced for a few years and is based on the old F150. I don't quite get the point but people seem to buy them. Then again, I don't quite get the pont of a BMW X5 or a Porsche Cayenne, and people buy those too.

Anyway, for our European friends, the F-150 is sort of the American equivalent of those Ford "Transit Vans" that are the "backbone of Brittan" or however they've been called. They are a staple workhorse of the manual labor crowd.

Now, considering the GLOWING tributes I've seen on TG/5G for the horrid Transit Van, I find the harshness on the F150 a tad hypocritical. Yes, it is a big, dumb, cheap, horrid pickup truck. But how about they do a head-to-head of the F-150 and the Transit?

I loved the whole ep...
And the drifters were great fun... Could have been a bit longer, IMO...

Very entertaining episode, you lot are obviously difficult to please images/smilies/lol.gif

Id agree with the F150 being a thristy beast though,we had a lend of 1 at my old job, drove from petrol station to petrol station images/smilies/biggrin.gif But the noise and the torque are unreal, particularly when you give it loads of right foot

The drifting was ok,but is should have been a full separate feature as opposed to being part of the Monaro feature, but there is a Monaro,or Pontiac GTO competing in D1GP so it kind of had relevance. But Im sure there are many who still dont know who 'Mr Kazama' is images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

The Lambo and the music were really what Top Gear is about - entertainment images/smilies/smile.gif
