Taking the Ford to school in a completely unfair race. Completely different cars with completely different missions and pricetags. A weird comparison.
Another excuse for them to say that American cars are crap, and another excuse for no0bs to rush this forum screaming the same thing.

See post above me.
The Mustang is a terrible car. If you carbon-date it, it dates back to the time of Christ. I mean if you're going to keep the fundamental bits about a car then make it the light weight and nimble aspects. All the Mustang has managed to do is get refurbished and get fatter!

I'd take the Exige-S over a Mustang GT. They're priced similarly in the UK and in America when fully loaded.
Just to clarify (not to be pedantic), the two cars are nowhere near in price. If you want a Lotus Exige S in the states it'll cost you about $76,500 USD and if you want the premium package Ford Mustang GT it'll set you back about $27,500 USD. Even a bare bones Elise Starts at around $43,000 USD some fifteen thousand dollars more than a loaded Mustang GT.
My boss' 2006 California Concepts Mustang was marked at $42,000. FOR A V6! WTF?
Not sure which model the California Concepts is (not a mustang man myself) but I reckon it's the one you've pictured in your signature. All I can say is that my sources for the Mustang's pricing information are from the US Ford website and reflect MSRP. If your boss paid $42,000 USD for a V6 Mustang from the factory, he must be slightly derranged.
California Concepts is a bit of a tuning house (not a very good one) that takes Ford cars and does stuff to em. My boss' car, all it has is big wheels louder exhaust and minor body work. The sticker price was 42k he told me but he got it for 37k which is still wayyyyyyyyyyy too much

I of course asked him why he was so stupid lol. He responded by saying he just loves mustangs. I said "Alright well as long as your happy i guess thats all that matters but.....whoa
http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/8756/86mb.th.jpg
hey see the BMW 850 that just drove by? I could buy a used one for a quarter of the price of your car and drive circles around you." He had a really bummed look on his face lol no joke.

I was wondering what it was as well, but I think you're right. I'm a little surprised the director didn't pick it up and ask the cameraman to reposition his camera though.

Great ep. What sort of money do these guys have though? The already mentioned camera on the Toybota getting sunk (with no obvious splash housing to keep it dry), the other camera in the cabin, the 13K quid motor going under - they really don't like getting dunked - and the cost of getting all these cars out of the reservoir, especially Hammond's. I did notice that the smaller outboard appeared to be saved. One minute it was on the railing (52'56") and next it was gone (52'03"). Maybe the camera boat saved it.

Maybe somebody who has seen it taped can say, but I recon they do more than they need and the cut out some to keep the show to the time limit. The audience interaction and reasonably priced car bits could easily run overtime and this gives them some flexibility in editing.

Yeah careful there, don't get on his bad side, it boggles my mind that somebody would pick a V6 mustang for a tunning base. That's the equivallent of taking a disiesel version of a European car for the purposes of a tunning platform. Obviously then the car is more about show than go, I bet the majority of the increased cost is due to the flash wheels, which always seem to be more expensive than one would anticipate. Anyways, don't be too hard on him, peoples cars are sacred to them as I'm sure you already know.

Now that was great! The whole amphibious car section was the one of the funniest, if not funnier than the car wash fire, thing this season.

i have 2 theories on this..

1: They didnt get the car untill the day before or the day of the shoot.. giving them no time for a propperlap..
2: Its raining and they want to give it a Dry lap (like all others on the top)
3: Its raining and Christian Von Koenigsegg has asked them to take it easy and not do a lap in the rain (2005 was the first year Koengisegg AB had a profit.. they had just enugh mony to buy one of there own cars images/smilies/tongue.gif)

I simply loved this episode images/smilies/smile.gif Loved the car-boat challenge, loved the Exige, lovedpretty much everything. And what was this stuff about the studio bits being bad? To be honest, I think they're as good as they were in earlier seasons. Except for the star in the reasonably priced car. Most of the stars are either funny, or they have a funny past, but this guy was just dull.

And BTW, the camera they're doing the cool slow-motion bits with, it's actually called "high speed camera", not "slow motion camera" images/smilies/tongue.gif

If you go to topgear.com, you can read about JC's attitude towards downloading. In the same article I think he mentions that the first ep costed 300k.

I was dying of laughter with Hammond's van/boat! images/smilies/lol.gif The episode was okay, the Exige S part was great. The Concorde fly-by was amazing. How did they pull that one off? I thought all of the Concordes have been retired and none in flight since around 2003. Most of them are in museums afaik.

You sure it was a Concorde? There has been several British fighter jets over the years that have had the same delta shape.

I think it was computer trickery, as the logistics would be too complicated otherwise.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

I just went over the clip again. Looks a lot like a miniature flying model of the Concorde. That shadow was way too small to be the real one and it makes a lot more sense if it's a model. It's at the 20:38 mark on the VuK rip if anyone wants to know.

Seems Richard was the only one who thought enouh to re-route his exhaust to exit above the water, preventing any from getting into the engine...

I think it was more of an exercise in showing how much more important power-to-weight ratio is, rather than horsepower, when doing anything but a straight line.

I was really impressed with how the Mustang kept up with the Lotus.

In America, you can pick up a Mustang GT for around $27,000. A Exige costs at bare-minimum $51,000. That difference, though, is like going from a 5-series to an M5. The cost difference would give you a performance gain like that for just about ANY car...I'll admit it does muddle their message a bit...and makes me wonder what the $42,000 Mustang Shelby GT500 would do with 200 more horsepower...plus you get a 1000W stereo, AC, power everything, and a rear window...sorry...I have a Dodge Stratus 4cyl 4door crap-bucket, and my next car will be a Mustang...best power-value-for-money I think...plus it looks outstanding from every angle but straight-on in the front...looks kinda like a Probe or an EV1 from that angle...

Since the vast majority of Mustangs sold are the V6, they are going to average consumers...everyday people who just drive them to work and the grocery store and probably don't even know that their car is RWD, rather then FWD, or what difference that would even make. Plus, the SRA is more durable, and actually leads to longer tire life due to more even wear. May 13th, 2006 at the U.S. sports car invitational at Laguna Seca, in the Grand Am Cup, a 2005 Mustang GT got 5th, only being beaten by Porsches, and some M3s. It's average speed was only 1mph behind. those...a Mustang also took the 11th spot, with the only vehicles beating it were, again, Porsches and BMW M3s.

Then he's an idiot who paid $25,000 for a body kit, a paint job, some exhaust parts, and expensive wheels which...are pretty ugly.

That's exactly it, though...you buy the Exige for something a bit special...something on the side...like a dessert. The Mustang is bought as a daily driver. One that you can take to the mall, but get there fairly quickly.

Hmm...an Exige in white? Looks like a white high-top shoe...makes the car look too plastic-y or kit-car-ish. White cars are driven by women who wear bright red lipstick, badly-bleached, badly permed hair with bangs and too-high-jeans and/or white sunglasses which...no matter what anyone tells you...will NEVER be cool. They make everyone look like Elton John.

Umm...what exactly is "fineeee"? Reading it, it looks like you're saying "funny" with an accent. I once was at a car dealership with a tag on a car that said "Smoooooookin'!" I thought to myself..."Why do I want my car to Smook?" Make sure you accentuate the right letter...Sssssssmokin' or Fiiiiiiiiine or even FFFFFFFFFine would have worked. Nope...worked beautiful for me...

Who thinks they got a new rain machine? Although, witht he amount they use it, it's no different than Fifth Gear. I swear, each episode they find their video editing program has a new filter or something, and theyjust throw it in for no reasson. (Homer Simpson: "Aaaand...star-wipe")

Also, it's not a "slow motion camera" it's a high-speed camera. To explain it simpley, rather than filming 30 frames per second, it films 120fps, so you get 4x more frames for the same length of time...bit then when you run those same frames at 30fps, the time is stretched out to 4x the length...making it slow motion. The camera isn't slo-mo, it's the editing. (Note, those are not accurate numbers, just using those as an example for easy math)

I don't car that "10 episodes fit nicely" because when I burn my DVD, I do it by season...otherwise you have end up with DVD's labeled "Season 4 Episodes 2-10, Season 5 Episode 1 -2" rather than just "Season 6" I do appreciate the video quality, though...on my TV I can't tell the difference between the 425 and the 700, but I can between the 350 and 425.

I apologize for the length of the post. I was away for a week, and came back to 9 pages of posts, so I thought I'd get them all in one fell swoop. Plus, I'm sick as a dog, and won't be leaving the house today and I'm bored out of my mind.

IMO, sure the amphibious part was funny, but frankly not so car-related. Thank God there was the Exige S to make it up.

Is that true what Jeremy tells about false traffic jams and speeding cameras going down from 70 to 50 mph ? images/smilies/ohmy.gif

Well, that solid read axle keeps the car cheap, helps it go fast at a green light, which muscle cars are supposed to do, and actually since it's not as light as some other systems and they spend a lot of time and money improving the system to what it is, it proving to be pretty effective.

According to Lotus's Japan page (which is the only Lotus page that talks about the Exige S) it has 162.5kW which is 217.9163 hp.

Microwaving pants...wouldn't the snaps and zipper explode?

No she isn't...her gut is spilling over her seatbelt in the BMW's...she really shouldn't wear tight shirts like that...I'm not saying you have to have a perfect body to be hot, but she has no sense about what she looks good in...that shirt made her look like she had man-shoulders.

(he he...just a bit of good-natured ribbing there...don't take it too seriously)
