Nice show, but I wouldn't call it the best so far.

They could've extended the review of the three no name sport saloons and scraped the report of the F1 car speed indoor record for that in my opinion, they're fairly ordinary cars but could've done with some more details. I wonder when Vauxhall will finally stop handing over cars to Top Gear in that respect. Clarkson mentioned often enough now that he can't stand the Vectra and never ever will. If provoked heavily enough plenty of FWD cars could get into the same sort of understeer as well, and that's the only critizismn he really could come up with. (Don't want to say that the Vectra deserves any better though)

The news section was alright, and I think that the whole team was expecting more of this weeks visitor themselves as well.

I've got split opinions on the caravan section. It started really good (especially liked the scene when James crashed the caravan) but at the point where the fire broke off I thought they overdid it because I got their point - caravanning is amongst the most boring things you can spend your time with, so there's no need to block all major roadways on holidaytime with them - long before that.

Anyway, haven't regretted watching it in the end.

I called the James May mobile number they displayed, but, predictably, i got a "the number you have dialed has not been recognized".

Why oh why all threads must, at some point of their existence, evolve in a USA X the world flame war?

Default a few points ... and caravans

1.: I was laughing tears throughout this episode, most of all at James' joint-comment

2.: I'm a bit bothered by a lot of people on this forum going on about what the Top Gear-team "needs to do". I mean you don't own the show, guys. The show is what it is, and if it goes in a direction you don't like .. well, tough luck. I mean I absolutely hate two of the Fifth Gear-presenters (Tiff and Vicky) for how they talk and move about, but I don't post stupid stuff saying "Fifth Gear needs to get rid off Tiff and Vicky". It just means I don't like Fifth Gear, not that Fifth Gear needs to change. I don't have a say in that and neither does any of you.

3.: I personally love the more comedy-like bits. I'm not that much into cars. What got me to watch Top Gear in the first place was the BMW Z8-review that started out with Jeremy sewing some trousers (happened across that on BBC Prime while channel-surfing one evening). From then on, I've liked every comedy-bit of it. Makes me laugh like nothing else. If it takes some scripting to accomplish that .. well so be it. Who cares if it's scripted.

4.: somebody said he believed everybody has been insulted by Jeremy at some stage .. I just wondered. I am Austrian. Of all the episodes I've seen, whenever he mentions Austria (which he does sometimes in weird contexts) it was in some way positive. So that one is a "no" ;)

5.: Having just driven across pass in the Alps twice (yesterday and today, the Fernpass if anyone cares to know), it is not specifically caravaners that are the worst, it is caravans from the Netherlands. No, scratch that, it's any car from the Netherlands or Belgium, no matter whether it's towing something or not, as soon as it gets near to a mountain. Maybe we should just totally ban flatlanders from driving in our country. Or alternatively distribute leaflets in their home-countries saying "when going uphill or downhill SHIFT THE FUCK DOWN YOU MORONS". Incredible *shakes head*.

McEnroe Conners Sampras and Agassie have OWNED them at their own sport for eons.
World cup???? Like a single American gives the slightest crap about the World Cup.....LOL why kik the little ball around when you can make MILLIONS playing Baseball, BasketBall, Football or Hockey. Hell, a lowly bench-warmer in these sports make more money than SUPERSTARS in soccer do. LOL( didnt the UK team BLOW it anyway ) LOL

The BMW M6 vs the new Challenger was PRICELESS.LOL
as always JC has to take a car thats 3 TIMES more money to get better performance... the v10 in the M6 is $40,000 mutherfckn THOUSAND dollars,, 12 grand more than the whole Challenger cost!!!
It took the Euros 40 years and millions of pounds to FINALLY get what the average AMerican had, under the hood in the fckn 60s !! and NOW that kind of power is only obtainable by the most affluent Europeans.
When JC starts testing real cars and NOT exclusive, unobtainable supercars, THEN he can talk about American musclecars.
Besides,, the best Brit car is a Nissan LOLOLOLOL and all the great Brit name are AMERICAN now. LOLOL

P.S. Yes! the anti American shit has truely played out..
Its an absolute travesty to know that OUR(my) grand fathers put their VERY LIVES on the line for these ungrateful fcks..
just so they can smoke the proverbial cock of the very Germans and Japs who were trying to KILL THEM....... pffffff.
I read this post and I was amazed at how some1 could take what JC said so much to heart, so in the interests to fair play and indeed personal curosity I decided to put this post to the test and I have some interesting results which might interest some of our American cousins.

Total Team Values.
New York Knicks $ 543 mil
Washington Redskins $ 1,300 mil
Manchester United $1,373 mil
New York Yankees $950 mil

Clear victory for Man U I think corect me if I am wrong but 73 million dollars seems a heck of a lot of money to me.

Now I don't know a heck of a lot about American football, baseball or ice hockey other than it is a blood spott but I can only assume that these pple are whats the phrase bench-warmer because............

10. Koby Bryant (NBA) $26.1 million
9 Alex Rodriguez (baseball) $26.2 million
8 David Beckham (football/soccer) $28 million (thats a very conservative estimate)

this bit I pertically like........."Yes! the anti American shit has truely played out..
Its an absolute travesty to know that OUR(my) grand fathers put their VERY LIVES on the line for these ungrateful fcks.."

We are of course talking about WWII, at what point between 39-45 was Britian at risk from invastion by the Germans IT WASN'T with or without American help this island was not at threat from German occupation.

"Besides,, the best Brit car is a Nissan LOLOLOLOL and all the great Brit name are AMERICAN now. LOLOL"

what nonesence, lets take Jag hmmm............the parent company is Ford thats a truism but are you going to tell me next that a Jaguar built in Detroit is going to sell as well as one made in Coventry of course not and there is a boody good reason for it

WarpSlowPoke we do argree on something though that M6 is a ghastly looking thing and the Challanger my god when it comes to mustle cars and looks alone Americans got everybody licked.

Yeah... can we all just agree that "Captain America's" post was completely disconnected from reality and came from the type of person who probably shouldn't be watching a show with Top Gear's sense of humor? Then, those of us who do get it can all move on to more intelligent discussion.

Sorry guys I forgot my rant about this but what the hell I will mention it.

"only Brit cars worth a sht throughout history had AMERICAN engines in them."

Jaguar E-Type the best looking car ever or the Bently Blower I could go on. The Shelby Cobra was not a English car looking for a engine it was an American engine looking for a chassis.

What about the only American aircraft worth a s**t during WWII had a British engine in it. P51 NMustang. American planes where playing with there props while British and Germans had jets to muck about with.

I didn't mean just in terms of nationality, but in terms of something you like. For example, I like BMW's, and JC's slagged it off countless times. Likewise, I'm sure there are things which people hold dear to them that JC has slagged off at one point or another, whether it be nation, car, or anything else for that matter.

Im only going to write one post on this subject and leave it, but things like this really do piss me off.

Who do you think was fighting the Nazis for 3 years before the Americans were attacked and decided maybe they did want to get into a war, the Europeans, and of course the British with them. Who do you think was dying during that period, the British and the Europeans. But then when the Americans did get involved, and they were right to get involved and hats of to those who fought bravely and honourably, who the HELL do you think was fighting alongside them on the beaches, risking their lives too, for the freedom of the WORLD, not just europe.

Goddamn you are one ignorant person, and how dare you bring up something like this in a topic completely unrelated, ok so jeremy clarkson slags off the americans a bit, so what? but world war two should not be brought up as an example of why noone should insult the americans in jest, some very brave people (americans) came and fought alongside fellow human beings against evil and tyranny, the british fought with them and provided all of the intelligence that was used for the invasion of normandy and thereafter, of course we needed the americans industrial and man power but dont think that the americans won that damn war on their own. Besides I think we have moved on somewhat, blaming today's Germans or Japanese for a war that happened 60 years ago is hardly fair, so yes I will buy German and Japanese cars, for one reason only, they have some of the best damn cars in the world, the day an american company comes close ill buy one of theirs, because lets face it they might be cheaper.

So grow up and stop being a biggoted idiot and playing the stupid 'would be speaking german if it werent for us' card, it is pathetic and of course don't forget that YOU had nothing to do with the war, your grand father did and SO DID MINE!

Tom

I don't want to go on about this subject either this is a topic about cars show (funny one) not a history losson but while we are still on the subject.

8/10 of German divisions where destroyed in the East with 9/10 of equipment now using this as a benchmark when was the last time Ivan registared on here and said "You ungrateful f***s in the West you should love my Lada 1.3 GLX Riva because you owe you freedom to my potato skin vodka brewing peasant anncesters and Uncle Joe" it just doesn't happen.

Agreed there zaybxcwd12.

Back to more important things, Top Gear images/smilies/smile.gif. Just watched the episode but unfortunately got the 350 mb version which was rubbish and am in the process of downloading VUK's rip, since it is the best. I thought the episode was fantastic, ive never laughed that much at a top gear episode, loved the caravans burning down, and don't really care if it was staged to be honest.

Good solid stuff, but perhaps the scripting needs to be toned down a little, I don't really know.
