This episode was simply awesome! much better than episode 1. The top speed veyron run was really well done!

I still wonder why we havnt seen a McLaren F1 around the track or a Saleen S7 on the show at all

Veyron section was the segment for me. Classic Top Gear and it really conveyed the speed. In fact that whole section was nicely shot. Particularly the shots of James at the beginning and those of the car static.

The rest of the episode was inferior basically. I gave it some thought. Basically I like when the 3 of them are taking the piss out of each other. Its more fun. The Bickering however, is wearing after 3 minutes.

The whole review was a bit amateur too. Reminicent of the Iceland Coupe test. (I daresay they will make a reference to that very test at some point) Still feels horribly scripted. Yes the earlier series' were too, but they didnt feel like it. Like Hammond didnt know the RX8 was going to be slower than the TT.

EDIT

If anyone wants to see Ehra Lessen in Germany on Google Earth its at: 52 38N, 10 46E

How come this season there was no montage of what's coming up. They did it every series since #4.

I gotta say so far I'm liking the new season. Veyron again was cool. To see capt. slow drive the worlds fastest production car in the world at top speed even Jeremy did not get to do that. Kind of cool. I have about 20 mins left to watch but I found huey grant anoying and boring. I was wanting his segment to go away quielty. Other than that I love what they are going to be doing this season. I'm excited for more.

It was very good episode. I felt a bit of old TG. James in Veyron was great, then good coupes review. Hugh Grant was hopeless. I'm waiting for next episode.

Yeah, I was very critical of 9x01 - and this showed me. I thought this was absolutely great. I would be ecstatic if the rest of the season went that way.

- the scripting was hilarious
- the editing and filming was beautiful
- the music was great
- it was the perfect balance of car tests and and joking around
- the comparo was good
- and the Veyron test was epic and just a tad over the top

9x01 was a 4/10 - this was a 9/10. My only complaints relate to Hugh Grant - which is his fault not theirs. That said - I hope this plugging thing doesn't stick.

People seem pretty polarized though - worth a poll?

I'm very greatful to see the Veyron again, also I quite enjoyed the bit with the art museum. Hopefully better things to come this season - OH! And what happened to Top Gear Dog?!

The car comparison segment felt scripted to death. But other then that, fairly good episode.

Oh, and I want a Mazda RX8 more then ever.

I loved the Veyron segment. I liked the coupes review. And I thought the Art Segment of that coupe review was actually brilliant. I didn't like nor dislike the Star-in-a-reasonably-priced-car segment. As for the missing train crash thing--anyone have a link for some information? I don't know what anyone's going on about..? Good to see the news segment back and in good form. Overall a good episode...but when Jeremy said "and that's the end of the show" I almost felt cheated out of a segment. Granted, that's because of this "missing" train thing...but still.

Oh and did anyone notice that May was being more assertive in this ep versus ANY other? You think he's trying to get the BBC to pay him more money?

My approval rating: 90%

just a quick note: shouldn't they make the last corner wider, even the stig goes off there.

Almost everything you said is wrong.

The Bugatti Veyron HAS BEEN in production for sometime. If you watch older episodes you'll see the Stig doesn't go off on that last corner. It's probably a new line that he/she/it is testing in order to get the best possible time for the car (i.e. it's quicker).

And the Brera doesn't look like a hippo.... even if it did, that's one of the deadliest animals on earth. So, good on it if it resembles that. images/smilies/lol.gif

It was the white stig that took it around both times. I was surprised that the Audi TT FWD with a 4-banger was that quick.

I liked the fact that during the Veyron test, they had a song from Casino Royale called "The End of an Aston Martin". I thought it was a bit appropriate with the premature knews of Aston's sale to Louis Vuitton. images/smilies/tongue.gif

I'm pretty sure he said 16, that would make sense considering the straightway is only 5 miles.

I saw the episode 3 times and heard James said 60 as well, I think. But then again won't that be a bit too long that it will show up on spy satellite image? Nevertheless we can now call Jame May "captain sub-lightspeed", heh heh heh.

The coupe comparision test was good if not fair, judging from the background in the clip this was probably made before Hammond's accident. The Hugh Grant's proctologist "joke" was a bit gay. The show was shortened to just a little over 53 minutes, obviously they left out 7 minutes of the train safety clip, damn shame BBC's becoming an ugly PC-ness ogre.

I would give an overall rating of 8 out of 10

Great episode. =D The Bugatti Veyron segment is epic and the effects are awesome as well. When the car went up to 400km/h I was like, images/smilies/blink.gif Too bad it still won't meet the TG test track though.

The 3-car couple review was great too. But something felt... missing from that segment since if you compare this review to the one they did in Series 7 with the Aston v. BMW v. Porsche review, they did a lot more testing and drove each other's cars. Which... somehow not a lot of those in this review. But it was still great to watch and sadly... I'd take the RX-8. The TT is good but it's too expensive with all the optional extras, and the Brera looks nice but it's slow and it looks like it didn't handle well on the track too. The RX-8 is the most practical and it is rear wheel drive. =D

One thought: Now even James May does 251 mph in a Bugatti Veyron, and Richard did 314 mph in his rocket-powered car as well... (and crashed, sadly.) Does this mean that Jeremy is the SLOWEST man on Top Gear? LOL

Jezza is Captain Slow... Hmmm, nice combination.

I'm just glad Top Gear is back. I thought the guys looked hilarious in those crazy golf outfits. I also really enjoyed the Veyron segment, but then again who wouldn't?
