Yeah, hill billy hicks and stereotypes aside - this episode REALLY showed America in a bad light for New Orleans alone.

vice_president@whitehouse.gov - here's the email address i'm sending comments to. Everyone else should do the same. The scale of neglect in New Orleans is abysmal.

I agree, the neglect off New Orleans is pathetic(I'm guessing insurance companies and pc is involved). I'm going to email them as well, its a joke after 1 year

dinp - it's only really Americans e-mailing the white house that stand any chance of making a difference - in the same way that it's only British people e-mailing 10 downing street that would make a difference (not that it would, they'd just put up a cctv camera, let a few prisoners out and ignore us).

heh if you think that exists, be my guest.

plus i am genuinely fed up of people moaning, especially about things on TV, even at my work, all people do is moan and blame someone else, instead doing something about it. i try but im only an intern.

if you didnt like it, the TV has buttons to change the channel, its that simple

Oh, I'm not so sure. Blair hasn't listened to the British people for about 10 years now.... He seems to listen to 'America' though. And do as he's told!!

Well done TG production, for once again, not shying away from an issue which has been buried by our governments...

Im sure you're right, but to do nothing doesn't make it better does it. If the Vice-President reads at least one sent by somebody from this forum, our voice has been heard. What they choose to do with the pleas is down to them.

Plus, it gets Top Gear a bit of publicity across the pond images/smilies/wink.gif

Well and truly one of the best pieces of television i've ever seen. I thought the Winter Olympics was fantastic but this was just superb. A brilliant mix of every emotion and really showed a human side to the guys.

For every PC person that knocks the show should watch this and they will see what the show is really about. Not content with solving the issues wrong with cars, they showed us just what is wrong with other things. A year after Katrina we dont see what is going on in New Orleans in the UK and it really showed up America and that it is neglecting its own people. That is disgraceful!

Not only was it one of the funniest things i've ever seen one of the most thought-provoking too. I cant think of any more superlatives!

From this weeks TG ep we have gathered that Alabama is NOT the best place in the USA to go on holiday.

Has to be on if the best TG episodes ever, funny as hell, loved the camping part although it was mean what they did to James car. Wonder if he managed to shift it....

Don't get me wrong, this was an utterly joyous episode but there is still room for constructive criticism. Yes it was most humorous, but it did drag on just slightly since the whole episode was centered on this one segment, but there was a good stead of variety at least. The thing is, when you compare the actual cheap car challenges of the episode compared to all the previous, I can't help but feel it was lacking since the main focus of the episode was their actual trip. The resulting picture it painted of America was certainly interesting to say the least as well. Still, it was an undeniably epic hour that I gladly gave away of my life.

Who wants to bet on the amount of complaints that will be received by animal rights? images/smilies/biggrin.gif

After todays episode do Top gear need publicity in America. The more publicity they get the bigger the horde of angry albama-ian rednecks will come.

In fairness Jeremy did move the tortise out of the road.images/smilies/wink.gif

And i certainly won't be going on holiday to alabhamaimages/smilies/cry.gif

Forget best of season, after watching it again, i'd say one of the best episodes period

It was a brilliant episode. At the end when they showed clips from throughout the trip I could feel the fun they had had. I just want to do a big-road trip like thing.

How many complaints will it get? Americans, animals, homosexuals...

Because the government of Louisiana and New Orleans is corrupt, as it has been for the past 70 or so years, since the democrats took control of the state.

Does the people who saw this on Top Gear know that New Orleans is a prime example of socialism, putting the a large majority of its inhabitants on welfare? Do you see know what happens when humans let the government control them via dependence?

In the 1930s New Orleans had a brutal hurricane...but the citizens didnt moan or complain; they rebuilt the city again. They know the risk of living there. That was before the welfare state was introduced in the 1960's, and look what 3 generations of welfare dependence has done. Look at how the city reacted; the mayor sat on his hands, and the governor just curled up into a ball and cried. Pathetic. You would never see that anywhere else in America.

So before the world says how bad it is in New Orleans, try learning about it first, and discover that our federal government did all they could. Obviously some of you are ignorant that in order for the government to help, the state has to ask first. The fact that a huge entity was able to mobilize in 4 days is nothing short of amazing.

How about the evacuees of Katrina, quite a few of them who abused the handouts we as Americans gave? And you wonder why we "turn our backs" on New Orleans? We as a whole country, turned our porch lights on for them, set an extra place at the dinner table...what did many do? They were rude, took our money, and bitched about everything. Ask some of the volunteers who helped out in Houston. They will tell you the real story of the shithole that is New Orleans.

Now, we Americans are a very generous people. We will bend over backwards to help ANYONE out. But when the people whom we help, dont say thanks...well, how would YOU react?

Now, keep in mind the vast majority of the citizens of New Orleans are fine, upstanding, law abiding people. But as always, the worst are always the ones in focus. What New Orleans and more importantly Louisiana needs to do is clean out their government. Here is one shining example: http://www.abcnews.go.com/US/Hurrica...1123495&page=1

So in conclusion, before you point fingers and say that it is oh so horrible in New Orleans, do some research first. For anyone who is in favor of socialism, New Orleans is your shining beacon. images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
