I really loved the review of the new 911 turbo. Looked the bits when they filmed it at night. To bad they didn't put it on the track...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but every single car that is faster than the Brabus on the power lap chart has less horsepower and less "torques" with the exception of the Koenigsegg CCX and that only had 90 more hp and a lot less "torques" but is also almost 9 seconds faster. 9 seconds on a minute and a half track....that's like a hundred dog years in real life.

I hope this episode really illustrated to people that more power does NOT equal faster track performance. Many other things contribute to a car's performance other than how much power the engine can crank out.

But what kind of 'torques' was he rattling on about? lbsft or Nm? Because in lbsft 800 (or something like it) is a lot more than 800 Nm I think.

Could you explane the difference between a convertible and a roadster then? On a ccx you can unlock the roof and put in a cubby hole under front boot. I call that convertible.
The BMW Z4 on the other had is called a roadster, yet it has roof fully operated by electronics.

Also, when ferrari claimed it had the fastest converible in the world (575 america thing), JC had no problem mentioning the koenigsegg as counter arguement.

Well that's what you'd think, but in the episode were Hammond tests the Maybach he mentions Nm. Eventhough that's in series 1 I think, I still wonder what unit they use whenever they mention it. images/smilies/tongue.gif

Yeah, it's most likely ft-lbs.

The Brabus is able to make over 1000 ft-lbs, but they limited it to 810 ft-lbs. Which is a heck of a lot more than the fastest car so far to lap the Top Gear "test track."

So the Brabus is the second most powerful car in terms of horsepower and THE MOST powerful car in terms of "torques" and yet it only managed a 32nd/33rd place on the Power Lap chart.

Now of course we can say that the SL was not designed to demolish the track, and that is perfectly fine. But we can extrapolate it to the fiercely debated Bugatti Veyron....a very powerful car not designed for the track...just like the SL.

That's true, but the Maybach is German, so they got the info from them in metric. They just CBA to convert i suppose.

Well the 575's roof folds away. I think the difference is in the type of roof-removal. Convertibles are generally cars that have roofs that are fixed to the car when they are put down. Roadster are generally regarded as cars that have roofs, that you can remove as a loose panel. Like for instance a vette, a CCX, a Viper. They have roofs that are simply panels you remove and stowe somewhere. A 911 conv. however is a convertible since the roof remains attached unless you'd tear it off. I find it difficult to explain, but I think that's it. images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

/edit: missed the part about Jeremy mentioning 575 and Koenigsegg, but then he's inconsistent and/or he just thinks every car with removable roof is a convertible.

A convertible is a coupe that got it's roof chopped off, a roadster was designed as an open car from the start.

This was a good episode overall, for the simple fact that it contained a coherent balance of informative car reviews and larking about. We were really treated here - a generous helping of two car reviews images/smilies/mellow.gif What can I say about the Reliant shuttle - whilst it did feel like an segment out of Mythbusters it was thoroughly intriguing to see the end result. And what a result it was images/smilies/lol.gif To think I thought Hamster's crash was on a large scale...

ahh no amazing stuff (apart from the whole shuttle thing - fuck me it went up fast) but it's the first episode that felt like home in a long while.

Everything's good in top gear land

JC bit => season 6 episode 2, the one with the MC12.

But how would you explane small softtops, like the Z4 mentioned earlier, but also the S2000 and many others which are called roadsters, and yet there hoods are NOT detachable.
I think that all 2-seaters are called roadsters(including for instance a lambo), and 4-seaters convertibles.
