That bit of the track faces North East. If he had just moved across to the left side of the track after the right hander then North would be correct. The display is probably just slightly slow at updating.

Great episode.. Jules Holland was a little bit dissapointing. Great challenge. Im looking forward to the BL challenge coming up soon.

Great use of Casino Royale soundtrack.. I reckon someone at TG likes 007 music, good choice images/smilies/smile.gif

Top Gear is funny as ever but I'm still disappointed. Once again, there was only one proper car review.

I think everyone should understand it's no longer just a review show of super cars that we're probably never gona own, or when we'll get the revenue to own one in 10-20 years there will be new ones, i enjoy very much the new format with these chalanges, who would have thought that a nissan pick-up with an outboard would cross the english channel.

It never really was that, tho. It was always a show where they reviewed all kinds of cars from all price brackets. It's only recently (mainly the last season and a half) where they've started focusing mainly on supercars (when they bother to review a car at all).

I don't follow. Just because you can't afford one doesn't make it right to imply everyone here cannot as well.

I like the supercar reviews more. Because everyone can go and drive a Ford Focus etc. But you have to be something special (rich £$€ ) to drive a Veyron, Zonda or an Enzo(especially on a track). And I'm not. And I doubt that almost anyone isn't either over here.

But an occasional normal car review by an professional wouldn't hurt every now and then...

I was going to write a well formed post about my thoughts of the episode, but now I can't remember what I was gonna write. Doesn't matter actually... 8)

Austere, you are absolutely spot on. Before series 7, Top Gear was simply the best thing on TV. It's currently quite dismal, for the exact reasons you gave. Well done. I agree with everything, and what's with the supercar only reviews? Some of the BEST Top Gear segments ever were of stuff like the Nissan Cube and the pacific rim cars and the Honda Element. It still feels like I haven't seen any new Top Gear for years now.

Thanks, man and I know what you mean. I still feel like I'm waiting for it to come back too. I honestly thought series 10 would be the one but it's not looking good thus far.

Can you believe the last proper review was waaay back in 2005? ...Crazy

It was the Golf R32 vs BMW 130i - Just thinking about that review has made me get 'Girls' by 'Death In Vegas' stuck in my head. images/smilies/lol.gif That scene at the end of the clip where the Golf comes storming through the rain and the song builds as Jeremy gives his final words... Awesomeness. Why can't they do that anymore! images/smilies/sad.gif

Damn, I just wrote a really long response and my computer dumped it. I'm pissed images/smilies/blowup.gif

Anyway, I'll try to sum it up:

I think that the past two series (8,9) have had the Top Gear soul missing, and until now, I haven't been able to put my finger on it. I think that alot of the enjoyment came from the guys reviewing un-super cars, average cars, and horrid cars. Say, for example the Pacific Rimmers, or the Prius, or the James's secret Rover test drive or the 24 hours in the Smart Car. And it's not just the review of the cars itself, it's how the reviews are done. Creatively. The test of the Smart Car was inspired by the brochure that said that it felt like a "lounge." JC's test of the Prius, which he based of the new Hybrid Technology and how horrible it was. The Pacific Rimmers' which were tested as a group, and then narrowed down to the best of the worst. And etc. I like it when they put the car they are testing in its element or even out of it's element or using it the way the think it is supposed to be used. It makes for a funnier, and more entertaining test. As opposed to driving round the track, and commenting on its speed, handling, etc. These types of tests provided good transitions and sub-material to supplement other parts of the show. Instead of the format: Supercar-News-Challenge-SIARPC-Challenge, which is what I've kind of seen patterened over the past couple of series, they've had some other reviews.

Testing supercars all the time takes away from the magic of the event from both the audience and the presenters. I imagine that the presenters are naturally going to lack some enthusiasm when they test in all honesty a fabulous and fast car, but only say a week ago, they drove an even faster car, so it's a bit of a psychological let down.

Alot of the challenges they've done lately are quite lengthy in actual filming and prep time and when they try to squeeze it into an hour program it comes out kind of hashed and unsatisfying, which is how I felt after the latest amphibious car challenge. Seems like they're trying to fit a whole lot of stuff into a small time slot, and I think it wouldn't be a terrible thing if they dedicated nearly an entire episode for a challenge (which I enjoy) but not every show. The latest amphibious car challenge has actually an epic achievement, but the way it was presented didn't feel very epic. It felt like it was thrown in at the last minute.

I alway remember the music in my favorite scenes from the show becuase it fit so well and added another dimension to the scene, but honestly I can't remember really anything from most of the past few series. A few things stick out like some of the music in the amphibious cars, part I. But on the whole, it has been anything but memorable.

I don't like being a critic because I appreciate what these three guys do and provide for us, and I am infintely grateful for it, but I guess its hard not to be sometimes. That about sums it up, I could go into more detail, but I don't want to make it that long.

Yes. I would like to see more cheaper cars than expensive cars (which I love). 10x03 will have more cars than challenges though. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

And the "old-style" car reviews will be back with the M5 Touring vs. E63 AMG Touring. images/smilies/smile.gif

There seems to be two types of people on here, the ones that like old Top Gear (more serious, focuses on car reviews) and the ones that like new Top Gear (more humourous, more challenges)

Personally I prefer new Top Gear, I don't even bother watching Fifth Gear as it bores me to tears, and while the car reviews in Top Gear are at least more entertaining than Fifth Gear, I still prefer the challenges and the "cocking about"

Series 10 Episode 1 I thought was pretty boring, the news was funny but finding the best road was boring, episode 2 is the reason I'm waiting in front of the TV at 8:00 every Sunday, the amphibious car challenge was hilarious

Yep you guys are right (well not Valtielimages/smilies/smile.gif) about the car stuff lacking that special something. They used to go on about loving cars with the x-factor. Well those old reviews had the television equivalent of an x-factor. The new stuff just doesn't.

Valtiel, I much preferred episode 1 to episode 2, although the test of the R8 was nice. But again, you have a feeling that if the R8 could've been tested in series 6, it would've been something truly special.

I know some of you may like this new format, I don't really get it myself, but at the end of the day it's the old, proper Top Gear fans who are being left behind and I don't think that's fair.

If they want to cock about, make another show and give it a different name. It'll slot in nicely on Discovery channel between Mythbusters and American Chopper. But Top Gear should be Top Gear.

It's not about being "more serious" like Valtiel says, it's about giving cars a heart and soul and analyzing their personality like they used to do so well. The old reviews used to stir the soul. I can find laughter in many places, but we'll never see anything like a good old Top Gear to bring cars to life for us.

I don't like to criticize, and don't like to use strong words to describe what is still a good show, but the amphibian car segment in this episode was unfortunately quite rubbish.
