How can you be suprized that they liked it when everyone else who have driven it (Autocar, CAR, EVO, Top Gear Magazine, the lot...) also likes it a lot? It's a good car in it's own right. As for the looks, that's subjective, and I have seen all of the cars in it's class in real life, and the XF is definately the best looking of the bunch, compared to the boring Mercedes, Lexus and Audi and the ugly duckling that is the 5-series, my opinion though...

I agree the concept is much better looking, however, in a saloon like the XF the style needs to be a bit subtler, and i definately appreciate the final styling of the car. It's quite flowing and beautiful, shame about that grill though, however i suspect it could be one of those things that grow on you.

However, having never seen the car in real life, real judgement must wait.

The interior looks great though, and the so called "gimmicks" add a sense of humour and occasion to the traditionally very dull exec saloon interior.

I find it utterly astonishing how Top Gear cannot get Mustang facts straight. It's not just a silly error, it's pathetic.

They made a comparable error, while announcing the Brabus SL and nobody made a big fuss about it. images/smilies/wink.gif Mistakes happen!

I have a great sense of humor, I can tell a joke when I hear one. That was a screwup, and it was also incorrectly stated on the Top Gear website.

Of course they do. But making enormous errors time after time is stupid.

I gave it 7. The 3 cars segment wasn't long enough. I liked the Ms Stig thing, that was pretty cool. The Jag XF review was probably the best review of the series and the best May has done since his 5 series review a few years ago. I actually learnt something and he didn't do anything pointless and ridiculous. Also used good soundtrack music from Bond films images/smilies/biggrin.gif

The SIARPC was the best of the series and the best for a long-time. That and Jennifer Saunders have been the best 2 for a long-time. TG awards weren't as funny as I wanted images/smilies/sad.gif

The Jag, It's charming.

The news, good fun.

The comparison, they had to start with the M3 *wink*. I've always wanted my first car, not my first car ever but my first car to be it. For the past 10 or more years in that segment the M3 has been the epitome and I'd defend it to no end.

This generation though my solidarity wavered. I thought, the V8 isn't as urgent as the V6 and it was screaming fantastic, think the M3 CSL when Jeremy tested it in the Isle of Mann (Sp) Ferrari exhaust sensation inducing if you ask me for half the money I think. It didn't look as bulky as it was either and it was more bad boy stancy vs mature yuppie. It just lacked something. And it didn't help that every car magazine I'd read thought thought the C63 was rivaling it and most thought it was a better car if not better buy than the M3 now.

Jeremy hit that on the head.

I not a Merc fan. I can admit when the make some cool cars like the CLK DTM that the billionaire with an uncanny collection of supercars and said it drove better than most of them in his stable, it went through corners like it was on rails. I liked that. I have never driven one, might add one to my stable and I'd do so solely on his testimony. So I genuinely like C63 and the evidence I was acquiring was weighing in on this. The styling of the new C, I like. I think its cool. The lack of poise around not so cool. The practicality, awesome. The compromise in the M3, forgiving...

Now I had this monologue for the past 3-4 months to the point where my first car was going to this generation C63. I couldn't believe the foundation of my loyalty to the M3 was floundering.

This M3 in this vid though, re birthed it. Jeremy is right about the persona, no doubt and one might even say... I .. but its still my first real car.

The news, hysterical.

The awards - I feel the same about the DBS, I mentioned it in the episode thread, definitely would be in my stable.

And same with the Drophead, James really was sincere in his clip, he liked it. I showed a few friends that clip numerous times. Its the shit

The GT500 and mention of the Mondeo, a tribute to the Americans, I'd say.

The Spanish grounds, my type of shit.

The Stig and chick Stig chillin' - Big Pimpin'

A great end to wonderful season.

^ Yup, a little late, I know.

And in what way is a Mondeo related to the Americans?

Is the Mondeo not a Ford? and is Ford not American? Unless he was referring to another Mondeo.

Regardless of where it's built or marketed to.

The Mondeo is not sold in North America. Only Europe. Same with the Ka and the Fiesta.

Not much of that post made sense. However english may not be your first language so thats cool. However your arguments would be stronger if you got your facts right. The M3 has never had a V6, and probably will never have a V6. In fact I don't think a BMW has ever had a V6.

As previously mentioned, the Mondeo is an english/european car. If you showed a Mondeo to most Americans they wouldn't know what the hell it is.

That's right, the first M3 (E30) had a I4, the E36's and E46's had I6's and the current one (E90 Sedan/E92 Coupé) has a V8.

I wouldn't blame him since almost every time a configuration of the cylinders is mentioned it's a V-configuration so you could assume the "special" BMW's have that configuration, too. At least the count of cylinders is right. images/smilies/wink.gif

A Freudian slip, if you will.

They probably will thanks to Casino Royale. Not most though so you still right. Okay fiiiine, not a tribute to Americans then.

I'm sorry to bump this topic, but it's bothering me.

What's the name of the track that was used for the 3 German saloons to bash out. I know there is a map, but can't find the name of it.

This track should be used for F1, instead of the boring Catalunya track.

So after watching this episode again (because I got to drive a C63 AMG last week), I can't help but wonder if they forgot to use the Sport mode in the RS4..

The three fast German saloon segment was great. I always love these 3 car comparos. I love all three cars, but I just can't get over the Audi RS4. It's by far the oldest of the three and it's amazing that despite its age, it still is very very close to the same level of performance of the M3 and C63. Also remember that when it came out it was miles ahead of anything BMW or Mercedes had. It's also clearly the best looking, inside and out, and will age a lot better than the other two.

What do you mean "forgot"? James was driving it!

He probably looked at the Sport button, got nervous, and started thinking about the John Lewis kitchen department to calm himself. images/smilies/wink.gif
