Cool, thanks for the links! These type of adventure programs seem to be very popular in the UK judging by the number of websites I see advertising more or less the same thing. Too bad we don't have more of these on this side of the pond.

Awesome episode. However... just a 9/10. The Mitsuoka bit felt a bit weird and they re-used the Sandero and Internet photo in the news again.

But otherwise... brilliant. IN YOUR FACE, GERMANS!!!! The Gumpert Apollo bit was quite a great review, Jay Kay was a model of how the SIARPC should be, and the TG vs. D-Motor bit was absolutely fantastic. Saw it while in the UK, and it was pant-wettingly funny.

Plus... Hooray for the Sti...James!

I scanned the thread but couldn't find an answer for this. Any show insiders or auto engineers know how the double decker cars actually worked. I looked and couldn't find any obvious mechanical connections between the steering wheel/steering linkage of the upper car, to the wheels of the bottom car. Anyone know how it was actually accoplished?

The two cars were attached by pillars... and it's very likely that one of the apparent pillars was the steering column going into the car beneath.

You are right, it's hard to see. But in some scenes you can see the steering column goind through the window in front of the bottom driver (eg minute 43:11).

An awesome episode. Top Gear vs the Germans was hilarious. The cameraman's prosthetic arm coming off and Hammond's reaction after his win in the Bowler were hilarious. The bit at the end of the race between "James" and Tim Schrick was hilarious when Jeremy and Richard were screaming "STIII---JAMES!!!".

I saw the pillars, but those look like attachment points only, and if you think about it, how can a pillar be a structural support to keep the top car attached to the bottom one *and* be a moving part that translates steering wheel movement to the bottom cars front wheel steering assembly at the same time? I'm not even an engineer but i know that is a little far fetched.

There are several points in the race, where you can see the steering column actually working. One example is around 42:02

Great episode, I gave it an 8 but meant to give it a nine. Loved all of The Great Escape references.

Hammond's celebration after the Bowler race was legendary.

Hammond: 'Some say you saved our bacon'

James: 'Others say I was bound & gagged in the locker room'.

On the Gumpbert/speed bump thing, I might submit for consideration that the average speed bump that I've encountered in the British Isles is of a slightly less...severe... profile than the one which waylaid the vehicle in the US. Most will allow one to do 30mph or so over them, not require you to come to a screeching halt and then gingerly cross over.

Hi Guys/Girls

I was watching this Episode again and i noticed something that would make me think that the Drag race (England vs. Germany) is a bit cooked.

First of all, i couldn't believe that the 9ff is that slow, and this video proves that it's faster than the Veyron:

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

but if you don't like that, here's the main thing that made the race look suspecious:

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/1...r11x061nv7.jpg
http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/938...r11x062ow1.jpg

That's the 9ff marked there! so why the hell would anybody brake in a Drage race before the finish line? plus if you tried to hear the sound of the engine of the 9ff at the finish line it's just gone compared to it's real sound at the provided video.

Thanks for your time, and sorry if i am too sophisticated

^ I was thinking the same. The 9ff should've really RAPED all of them.

The D-Motor-version aired today...

It was quite a bit longer (~40 minutes in total, i guess). I think you can see nearly all what you've seen in Top Gear and then there are a lot of statements of the german presenters added to it...
For example, Sabine complains about the 9ff not working properly (not taking gas), Carsten complains about never been driven a left-hand drive car before (and never been driven a bowler before ). Also they stated that the 2 Mini's were exactly the same and that the DBRS had about 120hp more than the Porsche of Tim Schrick.
I was expecting to see a detailled scoreboard through the competitions (which would have been very german, I suspect), but they just said before the last challenge that they had a draw at that time (2 Competition-Wins on each team)...

Anybody else watched it?
