Don't know about that...

Btw, when they reviewed BMW 1, they said it's slow, because of 1.6l engine. Clarkson said it in his times article too. But 1-series also have 2 liter engine, which DO get 0-60 in less than 10sec images/smilies/smile.gif I checked it out, they do sell it in UK. He said 1.8d is 19300£, but 2.0 petrol starting price is 1000£ cheaper. Why did they only mention 1.6 and 1.8D?
TopGear does their conclusion based on feelings a bit too often...

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I hate 1-series too (mostly 'couse of looks), so no need to argue about it being good or bad car.

Again for the personal opinions ....

I have a getz so I may be kind of bias images/smilies/wink.gif

The Polo is maybe better than the Getz then the cars are 5 year old ?

But i think the handling is better in the getz.

As for the details do you mean all the things there is missing in the Polo images/smilies/smile.gif

If it has to be a 1 series, I'd go for the 2 litre diesel... 0-60 in 8 seconds, that's quite ok... Anything faster as a daily drive and I would loose my license in a week or so...

Actually I thought, that the Polo maybe has more saftey stuff onboard the basic version than the getz... But it was just a guess... I got a VW (Golf, though) so maybe I'm biased images/smilies/wink.gif

Ever tried a modern Diesel? My Dad has a BMW 530d, when its running at 30mph or more, you have to listen really carefully to hear its a diesel... And more than 400 NM right from the start isn't bad at all...
I like the diesel lown down pull and changing gears directly to the revs where the turbo REALLY comes to live...

MXM, I think he mentioned the 1.6 because that is in the price-range of other cars with bigger engines (same engine, faster 0-60 whatever) but was extremely expensive..

Well I like Diesel to !

From Idel to 3-4000 rpm and then all the fun is away .... (this was in a VW tranporter TDI)

Then do the BMW have the peak power ?

120d's engine is nice, but.. it's a diesel. It clanks when it idles, and the whole car shakes. And it doesn't feel sporty, although it has plenty of torque. You can't rev it images/smilies/sad.gif

Anyway, there are some problems with 1-series which they forgot to mention, like visibility. It's horrible, try reversing it and you can't see anything. Also, they didn't show how much space there is in the backseats. Probably because James couldn't get in and didn't want to show that images/smilies/wink.gif

If I lived in Europe I'd definately want a Diesel. BMW or Audi or VW will do for me images/smilies/smile.gif and I'm the uber BMW fan.

I kinda like diesels as well, I drove an old VW Jetta TD a couple of weeks ago and it was actually quite a fun drive.. Not sure how many HP it has but the thing doesn't weigh anything. We actually weighed it that day for registration and the whole car with half a tank of diesel was 926 kilos iirc.

In the snow it was great fun, especially in the city with a fresh 5 cm of snow.. Just put down the pedal in the corners and the back end of the car will start following the front sooner or later.. I'm used to RWD which requires me to be somewhat careful when it's snowy (which it is from november to april over here). Another thing that helped was that 1st gear was kinda hard to find so my friend who owns it told me to drive rally-style with it, and so I did, but not only when pulling away images/smilies/wink.gif

However I owned a MB 220D once (a -72) and that was less fun to drive. It didn't have any problems whatsoever pulling 2 tons of firewood tho images/smilies/smile.gif

Not as much difference but I would take the polo instead of the Hyundai..
Maybe it's not a bad car but I have a feeling VW has a little more attention to detail..
That is REALLY cheap !
Here in Israel, a Getz will cost you around 100,000 NIS, which is about 25,000 euros....
I got my Fiat for 60,000 NIS which is 12,000 euros and it's second handed 2001 so....

As good as the Atom is, I think it perhaps would have been better to put a shell on it. Notice that as it drives around the track, it slides some. If it had a body, the aerodynamics would be greatly increases and probably more downforce, right?

But also more drag...which kills speed, I'm not quite sure if that's what the bodywork does, giving lateral airresistance, just put another spoiler on the front and on the back and that will help better I think...

You see the black "bootlid"? I think that is there for the downforce

You mean it sucks in air through that little hole thing in the middle? Might well be...

The car isn't about really high speeds, I guess, more about handling and acceleration from 0 - 100 on small race tracks... Doesn't need the bodykit things maybe...

What would a shell weigh? 150 Kilo? Just squeez some more hp out of the turbo (the engine off course, but you know what I mean) and its up to it... images/smilies/wink.gif

Let's just say, that a new that a new one will cost around 300,000, which is umm 60,000 euros EEK !

And a Panda, which I was offered but didn't buy since it was too small compared to my Punto, is 70,000 NIS and that's like 14,000 euros

And if you want to buy a nice sporty car here in Isarel you'd have to have lots of money images/smilies/mellow.gif
For example, a new 911 is around 600k NIS (the basic 911) and that's around 120,000 euros !

It's because of the high Taxes we have to pay ....

BMW 316i € 29.140

Porsche 911 Targa € 117.000.

So if you drive a BMW 316i in your country you're "The man"?

Don't think I could handle that..

Actually a 316i is more about 45000 Euros, if your 300000 are correct.

So, a 911 would be 90000 Euros in your country...
Calculations done by http://reisebank.de/sixcms/list.php?...ge=de_homepage

Still a lot of money

Yes, I took 1 euro = 5 NIS, turned out it's almost 6...

Anyway, for the EP...
I can't view it, maybe my codec is outdated?
I did download the latest one few weeks ago...

EDIT:
Ok, got the EP working and that Atom is amazing !

Well, we see a lot of 3 series in Israel
But, if you turn up in an AMG, or a 7 series or a nice Porsche, you will be looked at (if you know what i mean...) images/smilies/smile.gif

However, American cars are extremely cheap here. A friend of mine got a 3.1 Litre Chevi Corsica for 15,000 NIS which is a lot of car for very little money. Plus, a GMC Suburban (sorry if i made any spelling mistakes) is just around 20,000 NIS
