Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Does anyone know if the new GTI is slated to come out in January 2005 in the US as well? I noticed there aren't a lot of websites for the new GTI in the US. Also, I read on the UK's VW website that their GTI's will be manufactured in Germany. As far as I know, VW's in the US are made in Mexico. Perhaps this explains why my VW has so many problems and people in the UK don't seem to complain as much about reliability.

| spelling police: loses NOT looses [rant]this one always bugs me - when people don't know the difference between loose and lose - I'll forgive daniel with English not being his first language, but i'll not forgive the countless Americans that make this mistake constantly, dammit![/rant] | |

Late model Golfs/GTIs are made in mexico and brazil mostly. I think the R32 and other special models are made in germany.... And passat wagons, if I recall, are made in germany... one of their selling points. as for build quality from one location to another, I personally prefer a german made car, but truth be told, I've seen a lot in forums about how the quality is consistently inconsistent from country of origin to country of origin. As one person in another forum said, "The robots making the cars don't care whether they're in Brazil or Bavaria." And some have also noted that the brazilian and mexican factories are more modern than the assembly lines in wolfsburg that the Jetta, Golf/GTI and Passats are coming off of. The only cars being made in the new Transparent Factory are the Phaeton and Touareg, if I recall correctly. IMHO, I think the variability in the reliability of a VW, as with most cars, hinges more on the owner than the country of origin. -m | |
