Default Latest Top Gear Episode - No Sound...

Hey guys. I just downloaded the last episode of Top Gear... I know we were discussing the sound issues and a lot of people (including myself) were keen on getting it reposted. I was rather surpised to find that after I had downloaded the (i think reposted) episode there was NO SOUND at all. Am I the only one that is experiencing this? Do I need to download some new audio codec?? Please let me know how I can enjoy this episode...with some sound.

Thanks guys.

just got this episode.. I must say I liked the Porsche section a lot. It was pretty damn funny images/smilies/biggrin.gif

As far as the sound goes, I fixed it up (the best I could) with VirtualDub. I delayed the sound 350ms and for the most part the sounds seems ok now. Actually, I think anything between 330ms and 350ms will work just fine. However, the video has a slight glitch about 1/3rd through the video and I think that's why the sound seems more out of synch later on than in the beginning.
In any case, delaying the audio 330-350ms will be just fine for most people I think.

I gotta say though, if it wasn't for this site, I would have never been able to see Top Gear episodes here in Canada. We get BBC Canada, but only on digital cable and they don't even show TG.. just some dramas, britcoms and Life & Style programs like "Changing Rooms" LOL..

In any case, many thanks to the guys that make it possible for all of us to watch TG.. over and over again images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I would have to disagree with Jeremy’s assessment of the new GTI / Golf.

His comment was that you should by the Golf because if you purchase the Honda, well its still a Honda.

After having owned a trouble plagued Jetta for the past two years, I’d gladly return to my trouble free “still a Honda” days.

I know I’m not alone in this as VW is having huge reliability issues here in the states. My clutch failed at 18K! Just for the record, my Jetta is a German built Wagon.

Maybe VW s are built better for the European market?

I think JC was referring to "image", not build quality.

Aw shat, I wanted to buy that VW GTI VR6 but it seems you all just mushed it and made me feel bad about buying it, my friend bought his Honda Prelude and 2 weeks into the riding (yes it was used) it broke, I forgot what he said happend but I drove it and it felt like shit to me, nothing like having an M3 to go home too, that was my first Honda driven and last images/smilies/lol.gif images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

Ahh yes, "image" is so much more important than quality. I'll remind myself of that next time I'm at the repair shop.

But where's the difference? Maybe it's different in Europe, but with the VW aftermarket explosion recently, VW drivers have the same "ricer" image as the Honda drivers with stickers, coffe can exhausts, and park bench wings around here. And if the car (Civics, Accords vs. Jetta, Golf, Passat)is stock, well, VW and Honda both share the "Granny car / commuter car" around here. Only the models that display the better engineering (such as the Golf GTI, Civic SiR, etc) stand out. I didn't really get what he meant there, or what he was referring to. But maybe it's different in UK?

It's common knowledge that JC can be biased. His preference of the GTI over the Civic is shown right here.

Clarkson doesn't care much about rationality and he says what he prefers, without acknowledging what you may think. That's what makes him entertaining.

^ You're absolutely right, I forgot that I was watching Clarkson images/smilies/lol.gif

But the question still persists: what is VW's image vs. Honda's image in Europe? Over where I live, well, it's like I described above. You don't buy a VW or Honda for an image, except in a few cases (or unless you're a big fan of the F&F movies images/smilies/tongue.gif images/smilies/vampire.gif)

Honda's image over here is quite good... even a civic is considered a middle-management person car... esp. when a new Honda Civic costs about 33-35k USD for a normal 1.5l one... images/smilies/sad.gif ... so there are not many ricer civics around... ricer boys still drive protons images/smilies/lol.gif

Whaaa *gulp* 30 grand for a Civic? Are you sure these are US dollars? images/smilies/eek.gif

I quite like the CTR but then I prefer torquy engines to peaky ones, so I think I'd prefer the GTI engine too, even if it doesn't perform as well. And it's a world first too - the first gas engine with direct injection and turbocharging.

many european companies have factories in Mexico which builds cars for North America and I think VW is one of them. Europe ofcourse gets them mainly from Germany.

[flame]I just read through the first couple pages of this thread, and it made me sick.

WTF, all of these no-posters only show up when there is a problem? That's gratitude for ya: take advantage of a service someone provides for the common good, with no gain for himself, and at the first sign of anything less than perfection, all of these leechers emerge from the woodwork whining about the sound.

Viper, Sith and Zenon: thanks for everything you do. Viper, if I were you, I'd tell everyone to go fuck themselves, and share future episode torrents with only those who don't look a gift horse in the mouth. I'd also kill their pets and burn their house down, but that's just me; I've been told I have an anger problem.

At least with the leechers emerging like this you have an idea of the number of people who utilize your efforts, even though they don't appreciate it.

Thanks to Viper, Sith, and the rest: what you did was great back when the episodes were 200mb, now it's even better, so who cares if the sound is .5 seconds off?
[/flame]

Viper did put "go vote here" on the downloads page though. I guess he asked for it. images/smilies/mrgreen.gif
