How can you see he's cross-country skiing? He's only in the shot for 1 second and even then it's just his head.

You can see his arms moving. Norway is a world leading skiing nation, so we do know quite a bit about it. images/smilies/tongue.gif

Was this episode filmed before or after Hammond's jet crash? I know it was on tv after it but when was it filmed?

So, is that after? Which came before, 2006 or 2007?

In the first chapter of his book he actually writes about learning to cross country ski and how he found it frustrating because his ability to balance and learn things quickly seemed to have deteriorated after the accident.

I think it is indeed a camaraman, because there is also footage from Jeremy and James walking towards the plane that was taken from that position. Or maybe it was someone else from the crew who was standing there and watching.

I did a little research after that plane and it does exist. There is information about is on the internet. The number and text on the tail and fuselage are correct and so is the look of the plane (color and damage)

Yeah what else did you think? That TG just 'dropped' a plane there? images/smilies/wink.gif

It was more to the fact that the person behind the wing can't possible have been another ski-er.

Besides, there are enough shows who would just go to Norway to shout some extra footage. Although I don't think TG would do something like that.

hey (my fist post here too)

quick question: anyone else noticed that the new dvd coming out (the US and Polar specials one) has an interesting thing on its front cover. Apparantly the Polar Special is 'The Directors Cut'. no joke. enlarge the image on amazon. Dont know if anyone else has picked up on this but i just quickly scanned through the forums so sorry in advance if this is redundant.

In 2 minutes Canvas (Belgian TV) is airing the Polar special!
http://virus.canvas.be/category/deze-week/
It's a 50min version but I'm curious about what they will do with the music.
Anyway, I don't think I need to rip it cause it's in non-HD and with Dutch subtitles which probably will even translate Powerrrr!

That was the WORST edit EVER!
Almost no music (i think 5 is the max, the scene where JC is behind the truck skiing had some Greek rythms), the editing was poor (most of the funny bits were cut out) etc
Luckily there's the interweb for downloading the rip's

Top Gear polar truck was in Tallinn Motorshow 2008 along with Emil Grimsson from Arctic Trucks, who did the trip to magnetic pole with May and Clarkson

(Mobile phone is not a good camera!)

So I had a chat with this guy and this is what he told to me about this journey (some facts are already known):
* Hammond actually left Resolute one day before cars but they caught him in next after afternoon (after cars left Resolute).
* Hammond and dogs managed to cover only about half of the distance, then they filmed for few days and went back.
*Clarkson told that each tire costs 2500£, actually all 4 tires together cost that much
* All modifications for truck - 35 000 €
* Car stunts (trashing) are all made by one of the Icelander (who is some kind of World Champion in offroad driving) after they came back to Resolute. This guy destroyed all 4 tires and rims...
* Scene, where May almost drowns the truck, is filmed on the shore of Bathurst Island. Underneath snow there was about 1 m (3 ft) deep water and then solid ground, so the truck was never in real danger.
* They had little training in Resolute, where all crew members had to practice towing a small sledge (in case of car falling through the ice). Only one who was not interested in that idea was, of course, Jeremy. When thew tried explain to him that you might have to walk 50 km to get rescued, Jeremy told that he only moves with something that has engine or they have to shoot him in the back ...
*After TG reached the mag pole, they went to Isachsen weather station, where the plane should land. But thanks to bad weather, plane couldn't start flying from Resolute . Of course, Jeremy didn't like this situation, so he made some very angry calls to BBC and next day other plane landed there.
*Before leaving Isachsen, Jeremy had to unsettle some things. So he pour huge amount of petrol over the tent and light it up. Luckily Jeremy didn't caught fire because he managed to pour some petrol over his clothes.
* They had a local Inuit to show the way. This guy actually knew which way North is, without compass, by looking snow and even in dark. And he was always right...

I saw it in a parking lot, so its different.
