IDK. You might be right, but all I know is that the impression I got from the episode was the he at least made it ALMOST all the way before being beaten by the truck... but apparently it was never much of a race, according to this guys post.

Why, if Hammond left a day before, didn't they just SHOW that?! And if he only got halfway, I don't want them to pretend that he did go all the way. It kind of makes me mad that it was THAT badly altered for the TV...

That said, I really enjoyed watching this a while back... I just happened to discover this now and it's kind of disheartening.
Yeah but I think when originally aired we found out the following too:

- They didn't go to the actual North Pole, they were going for the Magnetic North Pole which is much closer.
- They didn't go to the actual Magnetic North Pole but to where it was around 30 years ago, which is much closer.
- They weren't the first car to go there, as there is a group that makes the trek every year.

I still think it was phenomenal (especially poor Hammond you could see the frustration and exhaustion in his face and it was all for naught). But I know they have to simplify things for TV and they went through so much, why lie to us?

I actually bought a multi-region DVD player so I could buy and watch this and other TG DVDs.

Totally worth it.images/smilies/cool.gifimages/smilies/thumbup.gif

It was one of the most beautiful episodes i have ever seen!

I felt emotional when Richard was having a hard time but i laughed when he came angry and said, " we are alone and i have this!" (this = shuffel? tool to dig? english is not my native language)

Jeremy and James having a gin-tonic while driving, my god, beautiful episode!
