Ye, rofl @ G'N'T

It was a very good special/episode. Didn't look too staged, unlike much stuff in S9/8.
Many funny little funny bits that looked natural.

I am speechless except to say that was one of the better hours of TV ever, and to send my sincerest thanks to Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May the BBC, and the entire production crew. Simply astonishing!

Oh. Great episode. Just left me amazed. It's already a favorite, and as already said, probably one of the best 62 minutes of television ever broadcasted.

The G&T was just great, and also the spam-shooting. A really great episode, that didn't really feel like an hours worth of television. It felt like a really long movie. I needed to take a break once, and then checked the time. Not even 30 minutes had passed, and it felt like I could have watched 2 regular TG-episodes in that time.

Thanks to everyone that made this show possible, and especially Clarkson, Hammond and May.

EDIT: Oh right, the "We are the only ones here, and I have a shovel" comment from Richard was kinda funny, but it was a bit to.. real to be only amusing.

Fantastic episode. 9.5 out of 10.

Would've been nice to see the Hamster get to the pole.

Can you imagine how many calories those dogs use? They must need to be fed every couple of hours. How do 'real' polar explorers carry enough food to fed them?

Loved the background music. Clint Mansell is one of my favourite musicians/composers.

How much do you reckon a programme like that is worth to Toyota? If this is shown all around the world they must getting at least £10 million worth of advertising. Will Toyota pick-up sales go through the roof?

Edit: now we can all get depressed when we realise there is 3 months to the start of the next TG series.

Take a look at the front page of the Toyota UK website. http://www.toyota.co.uk/

That was a powerful hour of Top Gear I just watched.... 8)

I don't think they went to the actual North Pole.

Their GPS at the end read N78 lat. If they were at the real North Pole it would read N90.

Edit: They went to the magnetic North Pole. Per the toyota site above.

What kind of pole did they find at 78 degrees North latitude???

The actual North Pole is at 90 deg. N, of course. And the magnetic pole was last seen somewhere around 82 N 114 W and heading further north (it moves).

I guess they just drove until they got bored and then declared the pole to be wherever they happened to be standing.

Edit: Just saw what hyper_snyper posted while I was doing research. They were 250-300 miles south of the magnetic pole. Anyway, it's pretty bogus to talk about "the North Pole" throughout the whole show, and navigate by satnav, if they didn't mean the geographic North Pole.

They went to the 1996 magnetic north pole, as per the Polar Challenge rules.

Kinda off-topic. Is the Hilux basically a Toyota Tacoma in the USA, or is it closer to the Tundra?

Expensive tires and extra fuel tank aside, how much you think a truck like that would cost me?

The Tundra is fullsize, the Hilux is mid-size. The Tacoma is a slightly modified Hliux. Pre-1976, they were the same, but since then, they've diverged a little from what I can tell. A lot of the same parts I bet, but a little different styling.
