True. Their main quibble, though, was that May was more interested in playing with various toys rather than looking at the 'social changes' that is (at least in theory) the basis of the programme.

I've just seen it, and the first half really felt like a condensed version of Jeremy Clarkson's Inventions that Changed the World. The second half then focused specifically on space travel, but it seems that next weeks also borrows from Jeremy Clarkson's Speed images/smilies/sad.gif

I've not seen the above JC programme, so can't comment on that, but I liked the first episode.

It glossed over a couple bits and pieces but it was fun. For something coproduced by the Open University it was surprisingly not-fact-and-education based, which was nice.

Second half on space travel? I don't get that until next week images/smilies/sad.gif

It's not classic James to be honest. It's made for the Open University which explains a lot of the shortcomings. It does have a very similar theme to the JC programme as Amanaman said. The first episode was a bit rushed it seemed - they shoved a lot into one episode. Also interesting to note that some of the first episode was filmed at the Top Gear track. The second one is the better of the two; I particularly liked his 'space photograph'.

It seems to me that James is on top form in the TG films which are a couple of minutes long, but given 30 minutes and it doesn't really work. This is why I am not that enthusiastic about the second series of 'Drinking Wine and Getting Pissed with Oz Clarke'.

He's still 'the Man' of TG though. May rules - official.

I really enjoyed it actually. Agree that it reminded quite a bit of JC's ITCTW, but then again it would do so naturally considering the programs already covered the topics.

Did anyone notice that the shot of the Dragon Rapide was taken on the Isle of Man with my old school in the background? images/smilies/biggrin.gif

The show itself was ok to burn some time, but James can do better.
