Default Hamster to get own bbc 1 show

Top Gear's Richard Hammond to get own BBC1 show

Richard Hammond has landed his very own prime-time BBC1 adventure show.

The Top Gear host, dubbed The Hamster, 38, normally plays second fiddle to petrol head Jeremy Clarkson, 48.

But the Mirror's motoring correspondent will soon be fronting his adrenaline-fuelled series - based on ABC's hit Wipeout format in Australia.

He'll fly to Argentina where contestants from Britain will compete for a cash prize on the world's biggest television obstacle course.

A bbc insider said the Hamster thought the format - which has been sold to 17 countries - would be "a lot of fun". It will be produced by Big Brother makers Endemol.

He added: "It's a big break for the Hamster to get his own show on prime-time BBC1 but he's got millions of fans and is confident he'll do well."

Maybe the reporter should do abit more reseach before he writes this article. Wipeout is a AMERICAN show (it does air in Australia though).

I wonder if they have to change its name because Paul Daniels did a quiz called wipe out which was a little more laid back then this show.

Oh wow, so what they've done there is take the truly sadistic Takeshi's Castle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takeshi's_Castle) and make it bigger, fatter, more padded and more american.

Tbh i don't think Hammond will do "extremely" well as a presenter. All his documentaries, day-time shows he hosted were let's say good(ish), not sure if it's enough to host a programme on BBC1.

My god that's the funniest thing I've ever seen. I wonder if the contestants were smart enough to get the jokes made about them. Knowing the average American- probably not

Might get some of those fat idiots into doing some exercise though, so I wholeheartedly support this show

The commentary is what makes the US show so awesome...it's just the two guys and even the sideline lady on occasion taking the piss out of most of the contestants.

That, and the Big Balls.

I remember the ads for this (US version)...it's not something I currently watch, but I'm planning on checking out Richard's version, assuming I can somehow get ahold of it over here. The premise of the show doesn't grab me, but there's many reasons for enjoying a show and a likable host is certainly one of them.

Don't much care for Hammond's presenting or this style of show... so I'll probably give this a miss.

If they remade the Crystal Maze, though, I'd be all over it.

Takeshi's Castle was just fine without the Americans OH&S'ing it up (this and MXC). Craig "Hello and welcome to Robot Warrrrrs" Charles was a good comentator.

Exactly...so it's a British version of the American version of a Japanese game show? Talk about synergy here!

It's like the Japanese Office:

I haven't seen the Wipeout, the American version (I think on ABC), but it seems so much like mxc, the Japanese program shown here in NA. Please let the Japanese game shows be Japanese; only they know how to make them goofy and funny.
