The good thing about this forum is that I know someone will soon kindly upload that video for those of us outside the UK.

In case you didn't scroll down, you missed this pic and info:

James May On The Moon

As part of a season of programming on BBC Two and BBC Four to celebrate 40 years since the first moon landing, James May takes a "giant leap" into space history to discover the stories of the heroes behind this auspicious historical event.

In James May On The Moon, the BBC's Top Gear presenter learns to use an astronaut's space suit as he trains for three days with the United States Air Force before travelling to the edge of space in a U2 spy plane. At 70,000 feet, James looks up into the blackness of space and down at the thin blue atmosphere beneath him, an experience that he says "changed his life".

It may only be a small leap into space for James, but it helps him to understand the achievements of the Apollo astronauts. Along the way he meets some of the men who went to the moon, experiences zero gravity and endures the force of a Saturn V rocket launch in a centrifuge.
70,000 feet.... I can't possible imagine how that looks and feels like? I guess it's different from the ordinary 30,000 feet kind of view?

Pity he could get a ride in a Blackbird. ...

I have seen a U2 close up, very impressive none the less. I remember Gary Powers being shot down - the Soviets had just developed a really good and powerful SAM and Gary Powers was just unlucky, I only am just old enough.

Oh and I remember Sputnik too (OK I was 4, so perhaps not that well) - but that woke the US up!

The quality still isn't perfect, but here is the clip from the BBC website.

Hey I was bored and did some messing about and found how to save stuff from the BBC.

This is what I used: http://www.hidownload.com/download-s...news-video.htm and it worked, using that flvrecorder program.

If you get an error about a missing DLL file, NPPtools.dll - I did - then you can get it here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/np...zip?0VGfQGXFdO

extract that to /Windows/System32 and reboot, configure flvrecorder to use the correct network adaptor (options button on the playlist side) and refresh the BBC page, the video should appear in the recording list and well its pretty self explanatory after that. Will give you a good quality flv recording and have just tested it, works great.

Hope it helps in the future

WillDAQ, your pic is only from 35,000' - 40,000'. My pic is from above 60,000'+; the island of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. Note: compare the obvious curvature of the horizon, and the blackness of the sky! Keep in mind, 95% of the atmosphere is below me in this picture.

I dunno, that TV Mole site is pretty reliable. I saw 9th July listed elsewhere too... Still, should be worth keeping an eye on the Radio Times, don't want to miss this one.

Default James May on the Moon

Hello, TV Mole here - I wanted to flag up that I'd put the transmission date as James May on the Moon as July 09, by which I meant sometime in July 2009, not 9th July as I think some of you read it. Will make things clearer in future....

BBC have just announced that the programme will be shown sometime in the week of 20-26 June, so keep your eyes on the BBC2 schedules.
