    [11x02] June 29th, 2008

The new series continues at high speed as Jeremy falls in love with the Mercedes CLK Black, Richard uses the Audi RS6 to take on some annoyingly cool French skiers and James sets our in-house bravery expert an enormous challenge involving an MG Maestro. Plus, the new Mitsubishi Evo X and Subaru Impreza STi rally around the test track and Rupert Penry-Jones and Peter Firth go head to head in the Reasonably Priced Car.

We're just back from filming for this Sunday's Top Gear, and we're happy to report that Episode Two is shaping up to be a proper cracker.

First up, Jeremy renews the age-old Subaru/Mitsubishi battle - fought for many centuries across the supermarket car parks and high streets of the Home Counties - by pitting the Evo X against the new and suspiciously hatch-like Impreza STi. Who's your money on?

After last week's spectacular failure, Top Gear Stuntman is back and attempting to replicate a classic James Bond stunt. And no, it's not the one where that Russian bird crushes the bald man to death with her thighs.

Having deposited several hundred kilos of rubber on Manchester Airport's runway last season with the BMW M5 and Merc E63 AMG, we're heading to pastures hillier to test the latest German monster, the Audi RS6 Avant. The slopes of the Alps, to be specific, where Richard tries to outpace some men on skis with the use of bad French.

Oh, and speaking of German monsters, Jeremy has finally convinced Merc to let him put the awesome CLK Black around the test track. We think he likes it.

Also taking to our test track are this week's Stars In Our Reasonably Priced Car: the Spooks-tastic duo of Rupert Penry-Jones and Peter Firth. Yes, it's two for the price of one again... with added spy powers.

And, as if all that wasn't enough, a charred, blackened friend makes a welcome return from the burns ward. Yes, the Cool Wall is back!

We'll bring you more pre-show build-up right here on TopGear.com, but for now make sure you clear your diary and arrange the takeaway menus into a neat pile next to the telly. Top Gear is back on BBC2 this Sunday at 8pm. Be there.

Would the next episode be 29/30 June? Or are there fat drunk blokes playing billiards?

July 4th is the re-air. I wrote the date wrong because they were only listing the episode contents under July 4th.

    Date changed.

Doesn't look epic, but doesn't look bad either.

... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

Looks like they have totally changed the SIARPC format - two people from the same show/context going head to head. Wonder if this is going to be like a cup competition, with semi-finals and a final? A bit hard as they would need seven shows in the series to achieve this and not six, unless they did both semis in the fifth show. We should know more after tonight's festival of motorised mayhem. Let's hope they reduce the chit-chat with the guests if they are going to show two laps, unless this is a clever way of extending this segment so they use fewer of their dwindling number of ideas in the rest of the show........who knows. Answers on a postcard to Viper007Bond, The FinalGear Hideout, Somewhere in the Pacifc Northwest.

For those who don't know/can't remember, Rupert Penry-Jones and Peter Firth are co-stars in "Spooks" or "MI5" as it's known in the States.

Well they didn't reveal much else about the SIARPC changes, other than the half-way round time check. Maybe they have changed it to 2 people from the same area fighting it out. Penry-Jones should be interesting anyway (I'm a good fan of 'Spooks' - 'MI5' in the US)

Oh, and the RS6. I think I need the toilet already.

Looks very normal. I'll enjoy it, but probably not one to show my normal friends

<sarcasm>Joy... another segment where one of the three race in a car against some random person across some terrain. I wonder if Richard will lose?</sarcasm>

I'm sorry, but I find these segments particularly boring now. Unless there is a proper review of the RS6 sandwiching this then it's completely pointless.

Looks like Top Gear decided the solution to having a crappy guest is to have TWO crappy guests. If they can't book anyone good they should just ditch the segment for the week. Last week's segment was just painful to watch, the gay guy was so gaudy and crude and the other guy had nothing worth hearing to say.
