Bat

also, we say "Knee-Saun" instead of "Niss-sin" for Nissan
"pre-us" (proper way) instead of "prI-us" for the Toyota Prius
Zee/Zed and Porsche is already covered
what else...

Murcielago was named after a bull that was granted freedom having endured 24 stabs during a bullfight in 1879 and Gallardo was named after a bull breeder named Francisco Gallardo in 1700, named because the breed was powerful, stout and particularly aggresive. Quite apt really.

Damn how much of a car nerd am I....

and Murcielago is "Mur-see-el-a-go" which means Bat in Spanish.
the meaning has already been discussed, but the pronounciation is a bit different, I think...
the "cie"-part is, as far as I know, supposed to be a "th"-sound, since it is a spanish word.

Murciélago, how to pronounce :

The name of the latest Lamborghini model could be rather confusing to pronounce correctly, a small help can be found here, since the name is a Spanish word, you should roll your tongue and say it like 'more thea lago', with the accent on the 'thea' section, or something like 'murthialago', both pronounciations will be close to the original name.

Well I pronounce most the names of cars in their own language, so I pronounce British cars in English, German cars in German, French cars in French (off course without a really big accent images/smilies/wink.gif)
Expect for the abbreviations, like VW or BMW, I just spell those in my own language.

Well I was gonna start a thread about the british pronounciation and saw this while thinking of it images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Did anyone else notice that they always add an "r" at the end of words that end in an "a" sound? or is it just me?
I mean, the folks at TG always say "idear" and "Toyotar", other than that I actually like the british accent.

I don't see how you can end a word that finishes with an "a" without making it sound like an "er". images/smilies/wacko.gif

How would you say "ya"? I'm sure you wouldn't add an "er" on the end of that, because then you'd just sound like a pirate. images/smilies/lol.gif

"Idea" is pronounced with a "ya" sound at the end and "Toyota" has that same "aah" sound at the end of "ya". So it's "i-dee-ya" and "toy-yo-tah".

It's pretty hard to argue with a Brit about pronunciation since they invented the language.

My dad does the "a" -> "er" thing too. Banana becomes bananar 8)

Jeremy says VW as "Volks Vawgen" images/smilies/wacko.gif

Oh and for non bikers - GSX-R is pronounced "Jixxer" (but spelled gixxer) images/smilies/wink.gif

Aha! That clarifies things greatly. Yea, we would (well, I would anyway) pronounce "ya" as "yer" (not "yar" like a pirate though). I guess you're right about it all, well I can now improve my American impression images/smilies/tongue.gif
