Default Britcar 24hrs 2008 [No Top Gear]

I've just seen this over on the Britcar website and thought you might like to know:

http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/cms/news.php

"The Top Gear BMW 330 dti is returning to the race,
the Top Gear Technology Team will be running the car,
this year they are running the same team of engineers,
they are expected to do better this year,
as the car has been totally rebuilt,
after the Off the car had in the night last year."

BTW, Hi all! images/smilies/thumbup.gif

Do we know if the boys are doing some stints or are they getting some 'proper' drivers?

Wooo hoooo! Go guys, get in the top 10!

Sadly I'm moving into uni during the weekend of Britcar so I won't be able to go which is quite annoying.

Nice... I'm not sure they'll bring it up in the show again - that would just be the same thing. Actually, I think they will get some proper drivers (in addition to The Stig, of course) instead of the presenters and then put it as a short clip in the show, maybe even just mention it on the news at some point, like they did when they got an Emmy.

But then, they have repeated the amphibious challenge - and that was awesome, so maybe they want to redo this one as well, taking it a bit more seriously, having some experience from the last year.

I bet the drivers will be different. James Tucker (Britcar boss) has been milking the Top Gear thing for all it's worth and I reckon it's just a way of getting more interest. That news item is cleverly written but doesn't suggest that the drivers are the same.

I have an entry list as at 21st of August and it only has one BMW 330DTi on it, run by Waldron Motorsport, with, Marcus Fothergill, Dave Bennett, Ken Lark and Steve Wood at the wheel.

Interestingly, Thorney Motorsport who were running the TG car last year are running a VX220 in Class 3.

Either way, I'll be there, I don't think I'll cover it as much as I did last year, we're having a mini Le Mans reunion and getting a bit drunk and having a BBQ and such!

If I see "the lads" I'll get some photos! images/smilies/lol.gif

Next year the teams from the US and Australia should compete as well haha images/smilies/biggrin.gif And maybe the German Top Gear 'clone' and Fifth Gear as well :p Now THAT would be awesome images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I do hope they feature it properly as a segment at least. It doesn't have to be a full show like last time but it would be brilliant if it were.

Oh crikey! Take cover! Last year I reported James for spinning under safety car, so if they are coming back with the presenters at the wheel, I hope that they've improved their driving standards!

Jeremy did say he would be "Very suprised" if he didnt do the BritCar againt his year. Besides they could make it a full episode this time. They loved doing it last time (Despite being shattered at the end)

My brothers team in Palmer Audi is there so he gets free entry, plus he's bringing a tent and booze so we can have a camp down at stowe or something images/smilies/wink.gif

There will be some sort of live stream on the britcar24 hours website too - I think they might have video.

that's www.britcar24hr.co.uk , if you didn't know.

Do not, under any circumstances, hold me to that. It just say's race streamed live upon the aforementioned website, so I assume it could be video. but then again it could not be.

However, I do know it is [theoretically at least] possible to hook up a live stream from the race control CCTV network (they do this at Nurburgring every year), and if there's suitably equipped TV trucks there... anything is possible.

By the way, if anyone is at the race this year, feel free to come down and have a chat. I'm probably going to be on woodcote gap again (opposite pit lane hospitality suites, about 100 yards downstream of the starter's gantry, right at the end of the main grandstand)
