I actually think it will surprise us and be the top. I just got that feeling.

think of how many straights there are
up to the first corner, then another one to chicago, then another long straight up to hammerhead and a complex of 3 more straights after the hammerhead through followthrough to the second to last corner more than enough room for the veyron to put its power down. i reckon they should set up a speed trap through the followthrough tyres, and maybe even make a new leaderboard of the fastest cars through there but yeah the veyron will definately push the gumpert |

![]() That aside, the Veyron is a very heavy but a very powerful car, and handles quite well - I can't quite remember if it was Jeremy who described it as a "big Lotus Elise". So my guess would be pretty high up, Top3 or something or other. It sure won't be faster than the Gumpert though, that one is just a purpose-built racer with road clearance whilst the Veyron is a luxurious cruiser, that just accidentally happens to be one of the fastest... in the world. |

So looking forward to this season. The trailer is great
![]() And it's going to be really interesting to see what the Veyron does around the track. Nice to get those discussions ended

You may want to read up on your Veyron if you think it was a Continental GT that just happen to find 50mph without anybody knowing why. |

I think a small misunderstanding happened here. What I meant was, Veyron was never built as a race car. Yes, it is immensely fast and that is intended, and its technology is far more advanced than many racecars at the time it was created and, in fact, up till today. And yes, there are only a few cars since that will reach the same 250mph limit, and no single one that will do it with you sitting inside being perfectly comfortable (as James did). But here lays the problem. It is similar as the Merc SLR in this way - it still has features of a GT cruiser. The Gumpert is stripped-out, lightweight, and has racing suspension - whereas Veyron is full of stuff on the inside and thus quite heavy, and the suspension is built so that one can sustain long rides in it without having crushed buttocks. All of which lowers cornering speeds and adds split seconds to a lap time - a point proved on the Nordschleife, where Veyron's times (although unofficial) are not as overwhelming as one might think. This is the reason the Porsche Carrera GT was quicker round the TG track than the SLR some time ago, and I reckon it will be the same with Veyron and Gumpert. |

But you have to remember there is a big difference between the CGT/SLR and the Gumpert/Veyron.
0-60mph SLR - 3.8 CGT - 3.5 Gumpert - 3.0 Veyron - 2.5 0-~124mph (200km) SLR - 10.2 CGT - 9.9 Gumpert - 8.9 Veyron - 6.7 The SLR's GTness makes it slower in a strait line than the CGT so it has no shot of making any time up on the straits. The Veyron still has massive #'s against the Gumpert and is AWD, it's going to make up time a lot better. |

Has anyone seen the car in person?? It's not that "big." It may look wide and plump.. but its not really.
I see it taking on the corners just as well as its possible performance in the straights! My money is on 2nd place under the Gumpert if not above it. I'd LOVE to find out its lap time around the nurburgring though!! |

It's not just the straight-line speed, either.
Lest we forget that the Veyron is (or was if I'm out of date) the fastest accelerating and decelerating car around. So even if the corners themselves are fairly pedestrian (What Clarkson's said the mountains of grip leads me to believe they won't be That pedestrian) it'll take no time to get back up to speed. And the braking for the corners can probably be left later than anything else. Unless I'm completely wrong, which happens a lot. |

Cornering G, mechanical grip, weight and power/weight ratio are your key elements to a fast lap result. 4WD means fark all on a race track. And 2 tons of metal isn't gonna help the Veyron at cornering, even if it has a 4WD system and 1000bhp. quote saved for future reference.... so I can laugh at you when the Veyron fails to pip the Gumpert off the leader board ![]() ![]() Quote:

So you argue the stats, than agree it stands a chance to win? Make up your mind. And since you apparently own both of the cars post some pictures! After all if you didn't you would have no way of knowing what was faster in real life.

IIRC, I read in the forum that S. Cowell said, talking about his Veyron in a show, that it was the fastest car around the TG track, but the Veyron in the video it's not his Veyron so we will have to wait to see if that's true or not.
