What we know about the Veyron is that it has the fastest acceleration and the fastest braking of all legal street cars.

It can go from 0 to 100 mp/h and back to 0 mp/h in 9.9 seconds!

For comparison: The Ferrari Enzo needs 11 seconds for that (same as the SLR 722 btw.), an Ariel Atom 3 needs 11.5 seconds and a Porsche Carrera GT 11.3 seconds. Unfortunately I could not find numbers for the Gumpert but I guess it will be between 10 and 11 seconds.

So what I see coming, is that the Veyron steals at least a second from its fastest competitors on each of the straights. It will be galactically fast there.

The big unknown is how fast it can go in and around the corners and should it be slower, is it slow enough to lose the advantage from the straights?

However, if the Veyron can go around corners like the SLR (which it probably will be able to), I suppose we will see a time somewhere between 1:15 and 1:17.

Some may think the difference in acceleration between a Veyron and an SLR (as an example) is not so huge... well think again after watching this:

But those numbers show acceleration from full stop, road acceleration (from 60mph) may be different.

I have a gut feeling that the Veyron just isn't going to be as quick as other cars (even the LP640).

Maybe I am wrong.

The Veyron accelerates from 100 km/h to 200 km/h in 4.8 seconds! Four point eight!

That means it is as fast from 100-200 km/h, as a Porsche 911 from 0-100 km/h.

Any questions? images/smilies/wink.gif

Just comparing the LP640 to the Veyron on paper, the Veyron does weigh 500lbs more but it also has 100% more torque and 50% more horsepower. Whether or not it can beat the lightweights like the Apollo, KZ1, CCX and Zonda F, I don't know. But the power alone is bound to get it close.

The Bugatti Veyron's advantage over the Koenigsegg, the Zonda or the Apollo is that it's got 4 wheel drive.

But not the kind of 4 wheel drive that slows it down a bit on a track, like it's the case with the Lamborghinis for example. Instead it has just the right amount of 4WD to compensate the disadvantages of RWD, when it comes to putting the power to the ground.

So it may not be able to go as fast around a corner like an Apollo, because it's heavier and doesn't have that amount of downforce. But I think the Veyron can accelerate earlier and harder out of a corner, which compensates that disadvantage again.

I can't wait to see if I'm right or not images/smilies/smile.gif Just hope the Stig doesn't wreck it while trying to get to the limit with it. I'm sure they'll only get a Veyron once.

Well its all ready been filmed or it would not be in the ad so i do not think the Stig wrecked it because i think that would have made it in to the papers like when that guy wrecked his brothers veyron.

Considering how well the Veyron handled when Tiff was driving it, and how the R35 GTR came in at 1:19 despite having essentially weighing the same as the Veyron but having half the power, I'd put my money on the Veyron getting first place (except of course for the caparo, but that's excluded). Probably 1:14-1:15.

I'd LOVE to find out its lap time around the nurburgring though!!
Yeah a guy round the corner from me has one. It's quite small but it's lovely inside and out.

I hope to do a photoshoot soon with the other one that resides in Aberdeen (black)

I reckon first place unless they test something faster this series...

Nurburgring now that would be interesting.. love to see the video of that.. they must have done shakedown testing there during it's development.. surely...

The article says Simon Cowell owns one. Maybe he lent it to Top Gear, so he gets a chance to do a power lap in the Lacetti again in return images/smilies/wink.gif

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade but that clip in the trailer is extremely brief. Are we absolutely sure that it is a shot of Dunsfold?

It most likely isn't Cowell's Veyron, see pics below. We will have to wait and see who borrowed them this one. Maybe one of the Arab sheiks, who borrowed one of the Veryons for TG Magazine - click ??

The one in TG preview:

Don't forget that the power laps are from a standing start as opposed to a rolling start. So the Veyron has a minimum of 0.5 second advantage over all other cars. I would hazard a guess of 1:17.
