maybe it's one of those : "first let the Zonda get up to 100 mph and then still get beaten by the Veyron" type races

In a drag race it will win for sure. Everything else would surprise me. Around the track I think it will be very good, but the Gumpert for example is a true racecar and has only 250 hp less (which becomes even more relative when you look at the power/weight ratio).

second to last one images/smilies/wink.gif

But maybe, they'll put it more early in the series, so other cars still have a chance to beat the veyron (i can't think of one, but still...)

The Veyron weighs half a ton more than any supercar around the lap board, so it's really impressive still...

Making wrong engine choice(causing weight) because of marketing guys and refusing to correct it is hardly impressive. With any normal profit aiming company this car would have not seen daylight.

I can see why you have a red square with comments like this. images/smilies/lol.gif

Bugatti chose the wrong engine? It was made to be the fastest car in the world and when it was released it was, it's acceleration #'s are so impressive they almost seem fake. But since the top speed car made for comfort isn't as fast as a car made for the track it's a waste of money and Bugatti is stupid for making it?

That comment definitely was not worth bumping a six-month-old thread. Especially not in the TG Spoilers section.
There is a "Veryron Power Lap"-thread somewhere in the bowels of the main TG forum where you can post this and get negrepped by the Veyron fanboys. But at least you would be on topic there.

Problem is .. you're mixing a few things there.

For starters, setting that lap time with that vehicle weight is impressive, there's no way denying it. Note that this is independent of what you think of the car.

Then, the engine choice was perfectly fine for what the VAG group wanted to do with the Bugatti brand: bring it back with a big bang. You'll have a hard time denying that as well, and the quad-turboed W16 engine sure helped with gaining attention, since any V8, V10 or V12 would have been just another one in a long line of supercar engines.

As for the idea of profit, you are correct: normally, this car wouldn't have seen the light of day. But then again, they didn't want to make profit with it, so you can't say they went a wrong way.

My conclusion: if you don't like the car, just say it. Trying to use engineering and marketing is stupid.

Is this still going on?

Is it still necessary to repeat that yes, there are cars now which are a bit faster on paper (but not in reality), that yes, some crazy tuners have come up with ridiculous suicide machines that can beat a Veyron (once, before they blow up)?

I'm getting so tired of this. Have you ever looked inside a Gumpert Apollo and a Bugatti Veyron and compared what you see? Well, I have.

The Bugatti is a car, that offers you convenience while cruising at 300 km/h with one hand at the wheel, a car you can drive to the bakery on Sundays to get your bagels for breakfast, a car you can take for a 1000 km trip without needing a wheelchair afterward - while the Gumpert is a not so much a car but rather a sado-maso machine, that would nicely fit into a dungeon.

While all other "competitors" need careful preparation and probably a trained racing driver to get that one run right (because the car won't stand more than one run) to reach the spheres of the Veyron, you can put any housewife in a Veyron, let her turn the key and do the same without breaking into sweat for a second - over and over again.

I cannot understand those who say that absolute superiority is boring.

I think it's rather sexy.
