Clarkson Gears up top cop car (mini spoiler)

TOP Gear is to become Cop Gear – by making the ultimate police car.

Sun columnist Jeremy Clarkson and the gang plan to build a super patrol car to help cops crack down on crime.

Explaining what Jezza, James May and Richard Hammond have in mind, a source said: “We looked at cops’ cars and they don’t feel equipped enough for the job.

“The Top Gear lads have got some ideas so we’re going to put them to the test in the new series.

“It won’t exactly be Robocop, but it will be better than PC Plod’s Pandas.”

As long as Clarkson gets anwhere near that car, there will be AT LEAST a couple of machineguns mounted on top of it

I'm just wondering what a car they will be using... probalby nothing expensive, since it's pretty sure they are going to ruin it...

... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

i predict an epic win/epic fail episode (depending on which way you look at it...)

whenever they make a car it's awesome.
It'll probably have a million hp and machinegun turrets and armored shit and stuff.

I also completely expect it to break down before they have a chance to film it in action

    This could end very well.
    Or badly.

Here's to hoping it goes as well as the Renault Espace Cabrio.

The streets of Britain will be safer once this is built

Also shouldn't this be in the spoiler section?

This sounds like great fun I imagine it will be like the aquatic cars challenge meets the van challenge - they'll each be given a budget and told to build a police car and then will each be challenged on a number of areas but I might be wrong.

Oh and here's a quick cheesy graphic I created to illustrate my blog post on the subject.

I hope you don't mind, but I stole that image for the main site: http://www.finalgear.com/news/2008/03/20/cop-gear/

    I of course credited you.

Didn't we suggest this as a show idea some time ago? I think we talked about testing police cars and someone may have mentioned that they could build one.

Could this be a FinalGear influence?

It'll be fun to see them upgrade a crappy car with a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. Maybe even a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. And maybe if this goes well enough (or bad enough) they could try their hand at making a fire engine someday.

whatever car they buy and end up building will be fast, have machine guns, and sport a megaphone putting out a million dB.

You know that picture actually makes me think that Clarkson and May could be police. When they went looking for the first car to have controls that we recognize they got along really well. I could see them pulling over people and arresting them on the car they bought. Hammond is to short for the force or at minimum to be taken seriously.

I'm thinking big tank thing, maybe an older Defender? With the 6.0L W12 Toureg engine for high speed chases and with lots of mounted .50 cals, armour plated and with nudge bars capable of taking down trees without damage. I mean, how hard can it be?
