Its all bollocks. People need to get outside and realise that this whole "Green Revolution" with Live Earth, inspired from Live 8 (hmmmm, that went well.....) is now increasingly a money making scam, now the likes of the media know how to expolit dumb ideolgocial teens with no knowledge of reality.

those crazy hippies. put down the drugs. come get a hug

Kim, St. Albans

Question 1: because they are there.
Question 2: mainly to annoy lentil-eating lesbians like you, Kim.
Question 3: When hell (or the Botswanan salt pans) freeze over.

I'll bet the dopey cow doesn't even know where Botswana is.
Perhaps you could ask the BBC to forward your response on to her. People like her are whats wrong with this world today. She's obviously one of those people who just sit around and wait for something to happen so she can feel important by writing a letter of complaint. I'm sure her life hasn't worked out the way she planned or she'd have better things to do.

I hope the gang didn't just go to the middle of pristine land and do 4wd donuts (OK it IS salt flats). It IS possible to go offroading without heaping devastation on the environment. People who offroad know about the idea, it's called "tread lightly" (www.treadlightly.org).

The idea is you try to leave things as you found them, stick to the designated trail areas, don't purposely destroy something, and leave the horseplay for designated playground areas where you can splash mud and do 4wd donuts. Granted, this is meant for more pristine environments like a forest or mountains, not salt flats.

I'm not a fan of the Watermelons (green on the outside, red on the inside) but I always follow the principles of Tread Lightly when I go offroading. I hope the gang keeps their destruction to a designated area, in general, when they do this.

I get a kick out of it when they do their head-to-head-to-head reviews on a beach, I don't think you could find a beach in all of America where you could get away with that (despite the fact that the Daytona races were originally on the beach).

If they're soo damn worried about it, why did they let them turn into salt flats in the first place? They must have lost they're heads when someone wanted to swim in the lake.....images/smilies/smile.gif

Of course the hippies love salt flats. Where else could they hold the Burning Man festival?

Default It's all been done before.

Peter Perlstein, a guide at the plains, said that the salt plains have been exposed to vehicular activity in the past, and I agree with his statement that Clarkson & Co.'s activities there shouldn't make a difference. I don't see how their driving over an area that was once a body of water is going to deter any animals from gathering there as usual.

Addendum:
Environmentalists are anal about everything.

What's interesting is that the Europeans have destroyed their (ex)African colonies for centuries by mining for diamonds etc. and now that a middle-aged man just wants a leisurely drive on some open ground the hippocritic vegeterians (who are usually women (no offence girls) and wear the damn diamonds that turned half of Africa into a hellhole in the first place) go balistic.

They're real pricks these lentil-eating lesbians.

Shouldn't environmentalists hate salt anyways? Haven't you ever seen grass after it has a fight with salt? It loses, salt is the killer of all green. So Jeremy is doing them a favor!

i think most people on here would agree that some enviremental protection, like running a catalytic converter on your car, is a good thing, i mean we had acid rain and dieng Schwarzwalds to prove unfiltered exhaust was bad, but this is the most retarded thing ive ever heard the enviromentalists complain about

i feel bad for all your Europeans that have to live with all the different vehicular taxes just because of CO2 and crap, i hope we don't get that crap in the U.S.

On a side-note this does make me wan't to see the new season of TopGear really badly

I think there's not a thing wrong with driving on salt flats; I've actually driven on Bonneville and there aren't enough words to describe how much nothing there truly is living there. In fact, concentrating off-roading in utterly dead places such as these is probably beneficial as it seeks to keep 4x4s off genuinely sensitive areas.

However, I think Clarkson, and a good number of members on this forum are pretty much clinically retarded when it comes to global climate change and thinking it is a hippie-driven scare tactic to make tons of money. To think that is just driven by ignorance; akin to thinking that seat belt laws were designed by people who hate freedom rather than to protect us.

For those of you honestly enjoy polluting just to 'stick it to the hippies' I only ask: did you choose to become an utter fucking moron? Or did god just make you that way.

And for those of you who think I personally am a hippie, you can suck my balls good and hard because I hate hippies. An example of TRUE ridiculous hippie belligerence: in Berkeley, some hippies have taken to sitting in trees slated to be chopped by the University of California to make way for football stadium renovations, claiming the trees are ancient and a valuable ecosystem. The catch? The trees belong to UC, they were PLANTED BY UC 70 years ago, and UC has offered to plant three trees for every one chopped down. Now THAT is an example of 'lentil eating lesbianism' we can all mock. Chop the fucking trees down. But climate change? Tougher cookie.
