It's good. MY congratulations to Top Gear for winning their timeslot. If i remember correctly, TG North Pole special scored about 5.1mil, so the regular series are doing better already & hopefully will climb back to 8mil record.

Comparing to American tv, 6 million viewers is not that much (Because Britain has 1/6 of USA population), but the main figure here is 23% Share which is Huge. For instance, on saturday, Desperate Housewhores (whatever images/smilies/smile.gif) - 12.9mil/19% share, which means TG wud've cleared 15mil viewers at least.

Considering the episode was pretty good, and tommorow we'll see the uncut news segment on topgear webside, - All is well images/smilies/smile.gif

Last year opened with 8.3 million but that really was more to do with Hammond than anything else.

This years 6 million opening is STILL higher than any other series so far (apart from the blip that was series 9).

I'm surprised Antiques Roadshow got 5.7million and the Xfactor got 7.4million, just proves how many idiots there are in the UK

I don't really know what those shows are about, but if they're as dull as they sound, it's a miracle so many people watched it. Maybe a Brittain can enlighten us.

Antiques Roadshow - BBC pitches up in your town, you bring old odds and ends, professionals value your rubbish, you go away with a valuable object instead of junk.
"that <insert rubbish item here> is a very rare one and is worth £10,000" Oooh astonished gasps all around.
Xfactor - singing contest with Simon Cowell.

TopGearManiac - Andy Wilman has answered that one already

Quote:
So the quandary is: which way now - cars and four million viewers, or cocking about and eight million viewers? It's a fair question, given we're a motoring show on the one hand, and egotistical TV people who like a nice set of ratings on the other - and one we knew we'd have to address come this series.

We have, and I think we're all agreed that chasing the eight million is bollocks; a false dawn, a night with a hooker when you're drunk. The thing is, the Top Gear audience is made up of several million who like cars, and then several million more bonus viewers; the ones who say "I'm not interested in cars but I like Top Gear..."
Seems they actually got a good mid-way point - cars, fun and 6 million viewers.

Antiques Roadshow is for the boring people/environmentalists who don't want to watch Top Gear.

X Factor finished 15 minutes before Top Gear started. And for saying it's one of the UK's most popular shows, it only got 1.4 million viewers more than TG. It's catching up...

For American's X-Factor = American Idol - nasty 'talent' show with Simon Cowell as a judge.

The ratings for TG - taken into context (it was a REALLY crap night all around for television) were pretty impressive to be honest - still one of the highest rated shows on BBC TWO all week.

I think this has been made more impressive since they were facing competition from the Scotland match in the rugby world cup which i personnaly kept flicking onto to check how Scotland were doing and i personally believe that a number of people intrested in the match would normally watch Top Gear. Are these ratings for just the terestrial channels or all channels and how did the antiques road show get so many people.

Fisrt post, been meaning to join for a while

Chay

These are ratings across all channels but the digital channels get so few viewers it doesn't register in the headline figures.

Oh and welcome.

That's exactly what I was thinking. They still got 6 million viewers even though this was a "car" episode. Awesome.

Yeah - imagine what it will get next week (well probably the week after) with the return of the Amphibius cars and when people remember its started again.

Also - someone mentioned the rugby - the final numbers (that include timeshifting) will probably add 100k or so.

Top Gear was THE most viewed show on BBC Two ALL WEEK!

I just checked the ratings for the past seven days (Monday 1 - Sunday 7 October) and Top Gear had the most viewers of any show all week.

In fact it's pretty incredible - the second most viewed show was The Tudos with 3.2 million!

They had something like that on PBS i believe, and i remember when we only had one good TV my mom wouldn't let me change it. It was so bad i almost thought about playing with the neighbor kids, keep in mind 2 of them ended up being drug dealers, 1 is a registered sex offender, and the final kid was okay all around, but his dad theatened to kill my mom when i was about 2 years old (and he has a basement full of WWII weaponry, mainly because he was too crazy to get into the actual military.) Worst of all is that i actually live in a middle-class, sadly all white suburb. Yay childhood, best time of my life images/smilies/dry.gif
