Default [10x07] Ratings

Another strong night for Top Gear with 6.3 million and a share of 22.9%.

It was again the highest rated show on BBC TWO for the night by a LONG way - it's closest contender being Long Way Down (Ewan McGregor etal) with 3.4 million and a share of 22.9%.

It was the second highest show in its timeslot being beaten by Heartbeat (ITV1) but beating Antiques Roadshow (BBC1) and Kylies White Diamond (Channel 4).

Heartbeat - 7.5 million 27.1%
Top Gear - 6.3 million 22.9%
Antiques Roadshow - 5.7 million 20.6%
Kylie's White Diamond 1.3 million 4.7%

The highest rated show of the night across all major networks was Coronation Street on ITV 1 with 10.1 million and a share of 39.2%.

Although Top Gear had an average rating of 6.3 million viewers, it did reach a peak of 7.2 million viewers at around 8.45.

Coronation Street - 10.1 million
Strictly Come Dancing - 8.5 million
Cranford - 7.9 million
Heartbeat - 7.5 million
I'm a Celebrity - 7.3 million
Top Gear - 6.3 million

With Top Gear regularly achieving ratings that BBC ONE would be proud of - I wonder how long before the pressure is put on for a transfer.

Would that be a good thing? Or something we should worry about?

BBC one is generally a bit "watered down" and more mainstream-ish.

BBC2 is the place to be.

I would hate for them to move to BBC 1, it would just feel wrong imo. Just like when The Apprentice moved.
or maybe it's just me.

Apparently they tried to move the show already before this series, but TG itself wanted to stay on BBC2
I cant remember the source, but my memory is usually quite good.

Personally I prefer BBC 2 - BBC ONE is where cult shows go to die I mean thrive and become mainstream.

I think the only reason Top Gear is still on two is because the Top Gear team have demanded it - Ricky Gervais did a similar thing with the Office.

Well... Top Gear has certainly become mainstream...

How would BBC1 have the power to affect the show more so than BBC2?

For a start it would probably get a bigger budget on BBC ONE than on BBC TWO and it would have more pressure put on it to stick to doing the stunts over the straight reviews.

You'd probably also get a Top Gear Extra or something like that on BBC TWO featuring another group of people talking about cars or the stunts in more detail - at least thats what would happen if it went to BBC ONE and followed the current trend anyway.

Indeed, and he mentioned it in Extras!

TG on BBC ONE = Nail in coffin

Suprised by those figures, expected there to be a bit of a downturn after last weeks episode, but it's great to see the numbers holding up. images/smilies/smile.gif

i think if they are on BBC 1 there'll be a lot of pressure on top gear to maintain high ratings hence they'll do more stunts, challenges, etc. and the show will loose it's soul!!!!!

Didn't Jeremy himself say that the show would move over to BBC1 "over my dead body"? I think I remember him saying that in his interview after winning the Special Recognition award at the NTAs, but I could be wrong...

Great to see the ratings holding up images/smilies/smile.gif
