Default 18 year wait to be in Top Gear audience

This is from the Daily Star

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view...e-on-Top-Gear/

I dont believe anything thats in the Star but It did make me wonder about this bit

"To make matters worse for fans, the waiting list is wiped clean at the end of each season, with just a “reserve list” of those who only just missed out staying on it".

The estimates I've heard about 1/4 that, but I wouldn't be surprised. The list is incredibly long.

However, they don't really go in order. Many people here signed up relatively recently and still got tickets.

Oh, and I cleaned up your thread title for you. images/smilies/wink.gif

Thanks I just copied and pasted the title from the Newspaper report (im lazy)
I know the ticket allocation is unfair I was only on the list for 6 months and I got tickets for S9 then I also got tickets for S10 it seems to be a bit of a lottery as to if you get tickets or not.

That's an insane figure! Is Top Gear's wait the longest for any TV show?

But keep in mind they barely do 12 episodes a year. That's not very many spots...

Has anyone noticed this?

"Still, fans may yet get the chance to meet their heroes.

The BBC plans to launch a massive Top Gear Live tour over the next 18 months."

What's that all about?

EDIT - Nevermind...just saw the thread about it.

Yeah, early in the year and late in the year. Most UK TV shows do 2 short seasons per year rather than the long fall -> spring like we do in the US and presumably there.

I said closer to 20, not 20 on the nose.

2007: 16/17
2006: 8 (crash)
2005: 18
2004: 19
2003: 20
2002: 10 (only 1 season)

They almost compare to the Green Bay Packers waiting list. 70,000 on the list, 70 become available each year, you do the math images/smilies/wink.gif

^ What do you mean GBP list? Aren't those just like tickets to any other sporting events, i.e. you need to buy them?

I think he means the waiting list to buy season tickets, as current season ticket holders are first in line for the next year.

Of course, the average Packers fan is border line insane.

Actually, the Packers is a great comparison to Top Gear. For nearly the last 16 years, they have been at the top of their game in popularity and performance, and an even longer history and heritage. Wildly popular, even across the pond. I have had people ask me about the Packers in both England and Germany, even people I just meet in bars or resturants. Its kinda funny. Top Gear was less known in Germany than the Packers. Surprised the heck out of me.

Make no mistake, when Clarkson hangs up the keys, it will be just as depressing as when Brett retired a couple of weeks ago.

BTW, my first post! Yeah! Tired of just reading.images/smilies/biggrin.gif
