I am so pissed. The BBC better:

A.) Allow Hessmo to continue.
B.) Allow BBC Video iPlayer to work outside the U.K.
C.) Air the brand new episodes on BBC America, uncut and unedited.

Anon here. lrn2torrent. kthxbai.

I see no problem whatsoever. I wasn't even aware of that hessmo site. You can watch TG by downloading the torrent from finalgear.com. Or watch it live through a UK VPN.

A) Fingers crossed. (I used it to stream eps of the show I was curious about before deciding to *ahem* acquire them.)

B) FTFY.

C) It'll be a frosty Friday in hell before that happens, I'm thinking, though lord knows that would be made of epic win.

Fixed That For You

I liked Hessmo because I could watch Top Gear Australia and Fifth Gear there. I almost always use torrents for downloading TG. It's just that when all three shows are on during the same week, I would have to download 1.5gb just to watch all of the shows.

Thanks for the explanation.

He could have left up the Fifth Gear section. Fifth Gear is in no way related to the BBC. I don't watch Fifth Gear, but I am still curious.

I believe when he first put it up, he was told it would be coming down. I am surprised he held on this long.

Damn.

It was great while it lasted. Many thanks to Hessmo for making some of the finest international shows available outside of the UK.

I honestly don't use sites like this, because I prefer to have the videos on my HDD ready to watch when i want them. My internet is that bad that it would take so much time to dl each one to watch just once it's not worth it when compared to torrents.
I'm lucky too because I have friends who can dl stuff for me on their lightning quick internet connections *grumble*

But yeah, the BBC needs to realise that they can only stop sites like this from being as prolific if they release Top Gear in an easily accessible legal manner in it's unedited form (understandable and acceptable to me if songs are changed, but I don't see why they would have to take 5-10 minutes out), along with making Top Gear episodes accessible for more countries and quicker. A 6-12 month wait for episodes when many other lower-quality shows are "fastracked" is not acceptable imo. I know this relies a lot on the boradcasters in each country co-operating, but it seems to me that the BBC is the main reason behind the delays.

Damn that site was my only opportunity to watch unedited TG. I've been using Hessmo even in school. I do have BBC Knowledge (and I pay money for access to it) and they are showing TG, but shorter, with dreadful translations. They haven't shown 12th series yet. BBC knows that millions of people all over the world adore their show and I am wondering why they are using this policy.

And streaming sites take just as much bandwidth as "downloading" (quotation marks because you have to download everything on the internet, only difference is that streams vanish from your hard drive when you navigate away) unless they butcher the quality, in which case it's not even worth watching.

Can't see the point in takeing it down tbh.

The bbc doesn't loose any costumers and/or money due to sites like hessmo. So the usual "piracy"/"copyrights" arguments go out the window, if anything, they earn publicity from sites like hessmo. (whatever good that'll do them, granted)

The reason they have to take them down is because people in the UK have to pay for the BBC so if it got out that the BBC was turning a blind eye and letting people watch in other country's for free there would be a shit storm especially if certain news papers decided to use the story to farther there anti BBC campaigns.
The best thing to do is let other country's air the eps ASP and then put the full ep on i tunes.
