Does the UK have a Hulu-ish service, or does Hulu workin the UK?

I can't see why they can't start putting up, at least, the early seasons of TG on (with ads interwined) something like Hulu, and then keep adding on from there (like how Stargate SG1 is being slowly added on to Hulu, but that might because it's already in syndication).

Hulu doesn't work in the UK.

Each network has its own system - there was an attempt to set up a similar service to Hulu - where every network has shows on in one place - but it was turned down by the BBC Trust and OfCom because it would have a negative impact on the commercial sector - even though it was a BBC, ITV and Channel 4 partnership.

So instead you have the BBC iPlayer (go to bbc.co.uk/iplayer - you CAN hear the radio content outside of the UK), you have ITV Player, 4OD, Demand Five and the Sky Player.

There are plans to open the BBC iPlayer on a pay-per-play/subscription basis outside th eUK but that hasn't happened yet and would have to be passed by the BBC Trust/Ofcom.

wow im surprised that so many people relied on streaming sites to watch TG.
hell I use google and find RS links about 40 mins after an episode airs, and with a prem. acct. it takes about 10 min to download it.

Thanks for this info. Well, regardless you can still view those links outside the US with proxies, but that's not exactly common knowledge.

What's the main thing holding this back? Is it the network's fear of losing advertising, or is there just not enough demand for it?

Some people just treat this as another TV show (shocking, I know), as in they probably only want to watch it once (or occasionally) and thus don't want 40+ GB of a show cluttering their hard drives. It's basically "On-Demand" from the internet, for free.

Even if I want to watch something once, I DL it. Streaming quality is usually really poor.

Perhaps I should start a website where you can download Top Gear episodes. It might just catch on.

Not everyone has heaps of bandwidth to use and especially in Australia where the price of the internet is pretty damn expensive and slow. Hessmo provided the perfect balance of quality and size with the series 13 episodes averaging at 215mb with quality easily comparable to the rips. Also just because its a streaming site doesnt mean you cant keep the videos but I wont say anymore on that.

Due to a request from the BBC, the website will be taken down.
I read that on Hessmo, but this is how it sounded in my head...

"Take our shit down...but pay no mind that we're not paying the artists much, if at all, for using their music and whatnot on our shows. We don't have to."

The quality greatly suffered though.

And BTW, 425MB rips are available in our Video Offers forum.

People are just too damn lazy and impatient to torrent. I really don't see the difference between seeing the episode 2 hrs after it airs, or letting the torrent go overnight and watching it while enjoying a nice breakfast. Sure there are people with ISPs that fuck over torrenting, but hey, that's what Google is for.

Men I wass so angry and sad when I found out about hessmo this morning. Thank God there are other ways to watch TG, but still. And why do people in the UK have to pay for the BBC???

I think they have to pay because it's their public television. (If I'm right)

Yes, taxes don't pay for the BBC, their silly TV licenses do.
