Don't they have to cut bits to make them fit the 1hr time slot on channels with ads.

Yes but there are no ads on iTunes or DVDs. It's also possible to run >1hr time slots.

Exactly. If they absolutely have to have commercials, extend them to 1h 30 or something. (Although, would it kill them to have one show with no commercials?)

Financially, yes. Having 1 hour of programming on your network is suicide and BBCA shows a pretty good bit of Top Gear so it's more than 1 hour a week. Not to mention it's reasonable to assume TG is a highly rated show there as well, thus demanding higher advertising revenue.

And all things even it can be difficult to keep viewers for more than 1 hour on a regular basis.

So this leaves us with a third proposal that they air TG uncut once a week and allow all reruns to be edited for time. I don't imagine that would be practical.

I'm convinced that TG fans would stay longer than an hour to watch unedited TG. I would even if they aired more ads than usual. You are right about finances.

For those that are interested, here's from the BBCA site: http://www.bbcamericashop.com/dvd/dv...the-works.html

At long last – Top Gear!

For all of you who can’t get enough of Top Gear (even though it airs on BBC America every Monday night), BBC Video is planning not one but two DVDs next year! Races, chases and things on fire – they’re all part of the rich fabric of Top Gear. You’ll want to replay these treasuries of the “top” Top Gear challenges again and again, if only to savor Jezzer, Hamster and Captain Slow’s most memorable attempts to get melted, hurt or drowned. Just remember: these are the feats of seasoned experts. Don’t try them at home. Above all, don’t try to beat Simon Cowell’s track record as the star in a reasonably priced car.
They don't mention *which* DVDs though. Very mysterioso.

Well, Jay Kay knocked Cowell off during series 11 so that would make sense. It's also possible they're releasing one of the Greatest Challenges and/or adventures disks.

That post is from September of last year. They had to have been talking about the S10 DVD release.

This thread has over-extended it's life..

The "site" is down, and won't be coming back in the near future. If there are other sites, use the subforum called "Video Offers". Do not post them in these sections.
