Seems that most people outside the United States just don't get the United States. I would say that these people are even ignorant in their lack of knowledge.

I personally thought this episode was extremely funny as it incorporates all southern redneck stereotypes. Somewhat unfair to assume all Americans are this way. The south is usually seen as, you know, different. In fact basically anywhere in the "Bible Belt" is a little different. Those uneducated about the US will assume that what applies for the south is universal toward the entire country. The US is separated demographically as much as Europe for that matter. Those in different parts of the country act, think and even talk differently.

Yeah - Subarus.
This is quite the tired topic around here - It deserving of a thread. I said my piece in the 9x03 thread - it was a limited view of a limited population in a large and diverse country. It tread on as many stereotypes as it could for entertainments sake.

They feel inclined to say those things due to it being a national forum rather than an international one. I'm not surprised with the comments I see but I don't necessarily agree with them. |

Well, if we went to the UK and wrote "Screw the Queen," "Tea is for Pussies" and "Princess Di Was Bi" on the side of the cars what do you think would happen?
If Americans pulled this stunt in the UK it would be their fault for provoking an incident. But if the Brits come to our country and start crap it's somehow our fault? Granted, just because someone is different from you does not give you the right to throw rocks at them, but if you poke a hornet's nest you are going to get stung. I was also disappointed that they portrayed all Americans as hicks from small southern towns (and in a state that is consistently at the bottom of the education rankings for the nation). Well, as Will Smith said in Men in Black II, "If you don't start nothin' there won't be nothin'"

I really don't think there would be much of a reaction, people would usually just laugh and ignore you. Apart from possibly the Princess Di one but that is far stronger than any of the messages they had wrote on their cars.

^ to be honest I have to agree. Most of the idiot element in the UK that would respond violently just don't give a shit about anything really.
The only way I could see you maybe getting a reaction is by writing something extremely racist or maybe something about a specific football team. But most people would probably assume that your car had been vandalised or think you have a right to your own opinion and not worry about it. Blind Lo I really don't think it makes all Americans look like Hicks, I think most people in Britain realise each State s different, hell I'm still to go to the states and I know that. As a public infomation film about America, I now know not to write stuff on my car when I'm over there and thats it

we are much more tolerant here when it comes to being made fun of. we can take humility very well, alot of british comedy relies on humility. now dont pay back the £10 you borrowed from some lads down the pub, or walk through a rough area heavily patriotic to their football team, in that teams biggest rivals shirt then you'd probably get stabbed. push some townies girlfriend in a little scuffle and her boyfriend will come to fill you in. like ruuman said, the people who retaliate in violence are the type of peope who actually dont give a shit about anything, and they'd probably beat you up for your money or mobile phone before they even got to caring about what you had written on your car, which they wouldnt...becuase they'd probably agree on the tea, the queen, and laugh at the Di jokes. you lot talk about us being ignorant, then you go do your own little bit of ignorant thinking to back it up. i think its pretty much a given, that you're gonna be pretty ignorant to any country you either A) dont live in or B) havent visited extensively. a 2 week fly drive to florida, or a few nights stop in london doesnt even begin to forge the understanding of a country. so theres no point playing the ignorant card, because 99.9% of people are guilty of doing it. oh yeah maybe if you rode through bradford or some where with BNP FTW! and Allah was gay with my dog and had pictures of you wipping your ass with the koran (or whatever holy book the preach from) you will get a reaction....but those things are kinda not really focused at the british, more at the muslims and their religion. being American in the first place is probably enough to produce a reaction from them anyway Last edited by otispunkmeyer; February 14th, 2007 at 10:49 AM. |

I think they should've researched their trip better. It seems like they picked the most horrible places to go. There are obviously a lot more scenic, fun places with people who are actually intelligent to go to.
Who planned the trip!? Think about it. They went to hot as hell Miami, shopped for cars in dangerous neighborhoods. Camped out and ate roadkill (that's where it got a little Hollywood), then went to Hurricane ravished New Orleans. Where are they going next? Baghdad?
