I like the idea... but it doesn't need to be old unreliable cars...Just take a new one and drive from London to China. There should be challenge enough.

I can't even imagine how much work this would require...

That said, I also would like to see it happen!

It would be something fantastic... but only on a few conditions:

    1) They make an effort to be themselves.
    2) They abandon the unfunny running gags and make the situational comedy moments seem natural enough.
    3) It is the only TG for the whole year. This kind of thing would exhaust their creative juices.

    Just my $0.02.

I do think the camera crew are good enough to win a Oscar for cinematography.
Would be so cool on Oscar night everyone else is dressed up and they turn up in jeans or just send the stig.

Best idea ever. If they were to stick to the original "around the world in 80 days" route, this is what it would be like:

    London to Suez
    Suez to Bombay (Mumbai)
    Bombay (Mumbai)to Calcutta
    Calcutta to Hong Kong
    Hong Kong to Yokohama
    Yokohama to San Francisco
    San Francisco to New York
    New York to London

They would need to abandon their cars for some parts obviously, but it would still be an amazing challenge.

Maybe Michael Palin can join them?

Suez to Mumbai over land would be rather interesting, considering they would have to cross Iraq and Iran.

But drive the Ferrari 599 past a stationary Veyron at 62mph during its 11 second 124mph sprint and the Bugatti will catch up by the time the Italian reaches 124mph."

"I wish it would be Gumball every day."

"Anyway, you can push the Veyron into corners up to 30 percent faster than you should and the electronics will always sort you out."

This has the potential to be a 3 hour Top Gear epic.

Interesting the link has gone dead and it looks like the story been pulled.
And i have found a idea for a TG movie using the 80 days idea posted on a board in 2007

I'd rather have this than a Series 15 and 16 in 2010, frankly.

While it would be a serious endeavor and probably more grueling than shooting 14 episodes across two series, it would just be a single event which means they don't have to come up with dozens of ideas to fill 14 installments of SIARPC, two each of epic races and challenges, a "special", dozens of car reviews, scores of studio segments, etc. So JC and Andy would at least be able to focus on just doing one thing as best as possible and just "have fun" which would hopefully "recharge the idea battery" for a single Series 15 in 2011.

Or if Andy and JC really are dropping hints that Top Gear's time is coming to a close, what better way to close it out than an around the world Road Trip.

Actually, if they use the entire Series 15 and 16 budget on only one movie it better be a looong one, of course it would/will be awesome for reasons mentioned directly above.

Doing it in a new car would be nice, like an Aston or Ferrari, but I think doing it in crapboxes would make it all the more interesting, a la Bolivia/Botswana specials. I'm not sure even Jeremy Clarkson could talk about a new [insert car here] for an entire trip around the world. You'd run out of things to say!

They should format it something like where each presenter could buy their favorite used car of their past or something.

I am sorry but you must be joking. The production on the Bolivia film is very poor. Too many continuity errors. I have actually produced better home movies.
Love the idea but not sure how well this would work. Unless they drove up through Siberia and hopped over to Alaska...now that could be interesting.
