Authenticity of car testing on Top Gear
During the latest test of Lamborghini LP460 on Top Gear track, Jeremy Clarkson (JC) claims that he has reached 207mph on a straight away. However, I notice the fixed objects were not moving that fast when viewing through the drive-side window when compared to other times when the car was coming to a halt.
I am pretty sure that the car has attained 207mph on the track but I believe it was either driven by somebody else or recorded on a different sprint that had not been captured on film. Anyway, love the show but don't fool the audiences by dissembling Jeremy Clarkson as some kind of plucky fast car driver. Ironically, James May's quest for top speed in the Bugatti Veyron looks legit while several shots in the Bugatti Veyron race, when JC claims to be stepping on the paddle to unleash 1000bhp, were so fake. The mileage meter was shown with the same number of miles (9446) at each clip. In conclusion, Jeremy Clarkson should now be titled as Captain Slow out of the three presenters. the films are made to please the general public, not car nuts, like most of us here. But didn't the top speed reached on the tg track was in the konnoiniegeseg ccx, wich if i remeber correctly ,was round about 187 mph, thus makeing the lp640 faster than the ccx
, possibly, and if you re-view some of the top gear episodes you'll find out that this isn't an isolated case (when they've headed to Milau bridge, outside, they've shown the cars on the highway and when richhard was talking i saw outside the window somekind of town - i re-watch some top gear episodes when i get reallly bored -.

I should think that the footage is not contemporaneous.

Gah, it's a bloody TV show - they edit bits and pieces together to make it look amazing. Everyone needs to get over the 'ZOMG TOP GEAR IS FAKE' thing.

I think the clip of the LP640 was genuine, basically because I can't see why you would want to fake it.

Dont they do that with the Stig's laps all the time? Just making the most entertaining looking lap to put in the show?

I'm sure that Top Gear is edited to the best of their ability but I mean for shoots like that I'm sure they might say something thats on their mind about the future of the drive that applies to it better. I mean a road trip with cameras would seem fun but would be quite annoying. Top Gear is still the best show in the world despite these small slip ups.

Lets face it, the shots of the interior where the car is going the fastest and looks the best outside are not always going to be the times when the presenters are at their best presenter wise. So it's perfectly acceptable that they use the best exterior takes and the best jokey moments in the interior, even if they aren't at exactly the same time. It's not exactly a new thing, Top Gear have been doing since their earliest days. I remember even back in the early Clarkson years you'd see him talking in a car, then you'd see a shot of the exterior with him driving and his mouth isn't moving.
It's not just Top Gear that does it either. In fact there's been a lot of crap going on about so-called 'deceiving the public' on TV recently, and it's starting to get on my nerves. Anyone whos got an ounce of a brain cell would know that TV is faked in a lot of ways to maintain entertainment value or just for the sake of editing. Same goes for all of the exterior shots on the cross country challenges, they're taken by another camera crew who's filming another driver on the way back. I also noticed on the SLR race that while JC is in Norway or something he refuels at a Dutch speaking gas station (dials in Dutch, currency €)and vice versa So what if it isn't 100% correct? |

In addition to this, Jeremy refuses to classify LP640 as a supercar and considers it a "hypercar" just because it is not as fast as Zonda and CCX. I believe the lap time of the LP640 was slower than the car could really achieve. If you watch it again, you'll see that the track is still WET! It wasn't very wet, but when you are driving at over 100mph it really makes a difference. I believe on a dry track the car will do 1.18.xx
