Default Bugatti Veyron and Top Gear

As everyone who's watched TG knows that the Veyron has appeared a few times for different occasions, except none of them involved it going around the TG track.

Why? Why do you think Bugatti has not allowed the Veyron to be tested on the track?

I've thought of several reasons, but none of them seem to add up.

Thoughts:
1. It's the fastest production car in the world (so they're confident of its speed in a straight line)
2. They're not selling that many Veyrons and besides its not as if anyone can afford it, so there's no real fear of competition with other cars.
3. Tiff Needell has been allowed to thrash the Veyron around the track, and it has been shown that the handling is not bad, so cornering confidence should go hand-in-hand with straight-line performance confidence.

What are your thoughts?

I'm also wondering if you guys think the Veyron might be put around the track in this coming episode.

Just wondering. If this has been talked about before and its old hat, then lemme know and I'm sorry beforehand.

The problem is most likely insurance.

And besides, it won't set any records on the Power Lap board. I doubt it can top the CCX. But maybe in the top 10.

They aren't having trouble shifting Veyron's. They will sell as many as they want to I reckon. Simply they are not confident it would be the fastest around corners. Which isn't a big deal but they have no reason to give it to Top Gear so I don't see why they will.

It was a track made of orange cones setup in a parking lot. Since there was nothing for him to smash into, they didn't have to worry about pictures of it mangled with a squinty-eyed gay man bleeding to death inside being in every paper.

The topgear track is a whole different monster. Not the hardest, but at least it isn't a fake track. Anyway, I'm sick of the Veyron. Why does it need two V8's anyway? A tiny car company (SSC) in America - a few beer drinking bald men from Washington State - made a road legal car that can go faster with just one!

The top speed of the Veyron isn't the amazing thing though. Remember it is limited to 407km/h (although it probably couldn't go much faster). It is supremely driveable, comfortable, luxurious.......I hesitate to say reliable as I doubt it it will be but at least it is under-stressed.

The Veyron doesn't have two V8s - it's a W16, as all the pistons connect to one crankshaft. Although it might look like two V8s joined together, it really isn't. Saying the Veyron has two V8s joined together is as ridiculous as saying a Corvette has two I4s joined together.

"The Veyron features a W16 engine—16 cylinders in 4 banks of 4 cylinders, or the equivalent of two narrow-angle V8 engines mated in a "W" configuration. Each cylinder has 4 valves, for a total of 64, but the narrow V8 configuration allows two camshafts to drive two banks of cylinders so only 4 camshafts are needed. The engine is fed by four turbochargers, and it displaces 8.0 L (7,993 cc/488 in³) with a square 86 by 86 mm bore and stroke."

You see, right there. F***en Genius!

Under Specifications: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Veyron

Also, Jeremy Clarkson: "... I mean it has two 4.0 liter V8 engines joined together to make an 8.0 liter W-16..."

Not at all, I am not a fan of the Veyron at all. However I have to admit it is a stunning engineering accomplishment. From all accounts it is easy to drive, the ride is good, the brakes are easy to modulate.

No where did I say I have driven the car and all my observations are clearly stated from the outside spectrum.

Ouch, temper temper! I must have struck a nerve there, huh? Never thought that would happen to a random person on the Internet yammering about a car he'll probably never see in the flesh, much less sit in, much less drive, much less test drive it. But it's ok, let's all spew baseless, overzealous rantings about stuff we'll never experience!

Being an astronaut is overrated anyway. You gotta wear that clumsy suit, then there's no air, and those space shuttles don't have any soft foam padding for my left foot when I hover around in zero gravity and bash into a panel...

Or here's an idea. How about you put on a cheap suit and your most grown-up voice, find one of the 3 dealers scattered throughout the Legends of the Hidden Temple, wear your puppy dog eyes and woo the nice snarky salesman, sit in one, and slowly realize that before this enlightening experience that everything you've just said was fucking pointless and retarded. Ironically enough, your opinions that you've oh so helpfully bolded for me were the only part of that sordid mishmash of the Phoenician alphabet that actually made sense.

P.S. If you want legroom, buy a 1971 Chevrolet Kingswood Estate. People paying $1mil+ have better priorities on their minds.

LOL. Certain ppl would pay 1mil for a pack of crisps, if it was made some place exotic & properly PR-ed.
The Look, the colour these are all personal preferenses & cannot be used to judge anything.
Rich ppl are actualy buying Veyrons to show off. 90% of em will never even drive faster than 120mph. Never Ever do that track day stuff or rent a track, like Jay Leno rented Talladega to drive his Carrera GT up 2 max.
Veyron for men is the same as The most expensive dress for women. It's like having a working Jetfighter in your garden...

How can you compare space travel with driving an overpriced volkswagon.

The Veyron is better production car than the SSC, even if the SSC is a wee bit faster in a strait line. It is better for the same reason that the Carrera GT is better than the Enzo. The Veyron is the ultimate touring car. It has unbelievable performance while being a drivable car. The Aero TT is just a track car that can get over speed bumps.

The Carrera GT is just about the best looking car there is and it can be driven on a daily basis. The Enzo needs an oil change every couple of minutes, and an entire new engine after a while. All that gets you only 0.8 seconds faster than the GT. If you really want that fast of a car for the track, because that is really the only appeal for the Enzo, its not comfortable or reliable or good looking, then get an Ariel Atom.
