Call for Clarkson to be prime minister gathers speed

Forget Brown and Cameron, a new figure is being urged to step forward as leader of the nation – vote Clarkson. More than 7,600 people have signed a petition on 10 Downing Street’s website that demands simply: “Make Jeremy Clarkson prime minister.”

The Sunday Times columnist and Top Gear presenter’s political bandwagon is beginning to roll (presumably with a V8 engine that delivers acceleration of 0-60mph in just 3.8sec). So what would be prime minister Clarkson’s policy priorities for his first 100 days in office? “I’d sack everybody and then go to the pub and put my feet up,” he says, speaking from his campaign headquarters. “You don’t need the government most of the time. Everything would still happen without it.”

And foreign policy? “Nah.”

Clarkon has been quoted in interviews that the last thing he'd ever want to be is a politician, that he'd rather be one of those british soldiers suffering in Iraq clearing bombs and land mines from the british bases in insane heat than deal with politics. Plus he's a pretty smart guy, he probably knows that if he were to take office with all these grand ideas, that his soul would die a bit every day because politics is so complicated, he'd have to compromise pretty much all his stands and beliefs just to do the job, and he's definitely the type of guy who hates compromise.

Clarkson would not be a good PM. He's a good entertainer, journalist and broadcaster, that's it, as long as we're talking about professional labour.

Well since his Tonyness has gone on his holidays and tubby has gone on his then went sick and GB has not choosen the curtains yet I think the place has improved actually. Finding a Prime Minister is very easy, you need a 30-40 y/o guy with 110+ iq. Somehow UK & USA ended up with Monkeyboys from "A Night at the Roxbury".

Two reasons :

One, the monarchy has very little power, unless a state of emergency is announced (which is really quite unlikely).
Two, quite a lot of people like the Queen.

I'd vote for Clarkson. Well, maybe not for PM. Not just yet. Stick him in the transport department.

The USA is about the only former British colony that doesn't still recognize the Queen.

California is being run by an Austrian body builder and he's doing a lot better job than Gray Davis. Perhaps Clarkson could do the same.

True, but you could look at Reagan. It's not that he was a stupid guy, he wasn't stupid.

But he did the same with America as Tatcher did with the UK, and even if you won the cold war, you did spend way too much on the millitary, and you too were nearing very serious ecconomic problems.

But I'd rather have Boris Johnson. He'll mistakenly order a nuclear strike on Fiji (or any other random country), while trying to order a cup of tea in the morning.

James May as the PM would be interesting, but I suppose he'd make the bureaucrats impacient.
