Default Clarkson in "common theme of thinking for past few thousand years" shocker

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6676839.stm

note : this goes beyond cars - so no 'only 100 years of cars' smartness images/smilies/smile.gif

The regulator decided the use of the word "gay" was not necessarily offensive,

right.....

but Clarkson's use of the term was "clearly linking the reference to homosexual people".

like the way gay exclusively refers to happy people.

To clarify, the daihatsu copen is as gay as a little dog in a handbag, and no matter how you put it, it's just so.

Five people complained about Clarkson's terminology

What is important to remember here is that if Ofcom stops making reports on harmful or offensive material they will get closed so once in a while they will come forward with some petty accusations like this.

It's like this. You see a Mini Cooper S Convertable driving down the road - a male is driving

Is he :

a. A hairdresser
b. An embarrased BMW Service Technician
c. A RAC man who forgot his uniform driving a customer home
d. Seriously in need of some social information

There are plenty of stereotypes around - every single one of us falls into one category or another.

Tho I ain't gay or nowt.

Ooh - Any Dream Will Do is on...l8rs....

How To Suck The Life Out Of Anything 101:

"Last year, he was cleared of making a racist slur about Germany because this was adjudged to be amusing rather than offensive."

Thanks for the adjudication, Ofcom! I didn't know there for a second whether I found it funny or offensive. Now I've been put straight.

lol im pretty sure the only people who even gave a damn about what he said were those 5 people and people at ofcom trying to justify their existance.

some people are so sad. it must be sad to be gay and so uptight that they must complain about trivial stuff, i bet they never see the light of day either

He didn't even get it right. It should just be Ginger not Ginger Beer like Septic for an American or Hank for being hungry. The rhyming element is supposed to be dropped.

I love how they said he's "capable of giving offence to homosexuals". Gee, thanks for the tip, who doesn't Jeremy Clarkson have the capability to offend?

I get the first two (septic especially), but Hank? images/smilies/wacko.gif

Another question about rhyming slang: are there only a certain number of slang that can be used, those that have been around for seemingly hundreds of years that anyone will get? Or can people just make up new phrases and get away with that? I'd imagine it would get confusing, quick, if people stopped using those cliches to describe things.

Hank is used if you are hungry as in Hank Marvin - Starvin'. As far as I know hen can usually be made up but people don't usually know them so there's no point.

big freaking whoop, he burned a german flag on old top gear, I would think that would be 100x more offensive to the whole country of germany than "ginger beer" is to gay people

OMG!!! Think of the Children, will somebody PLEASE think of the children, they may have no idea WTF he is even talking about but they could possibly be hearing something offensive, but they aren't sure.

Why am I reminding myself of the episode where Butter's is wondering WTH "bi-curious" is?
