Not a surprise, Insight was a hasty "effort" by Honda to give an answer to Prius. Civic Hybrid in NA ended up being a major fail because people here due to their cultural retardation need to show the world just how much they care about the environment through awkwardly styled cars. I'm not a fan of Hybrids by any means, but Prius is by far a better choice. Although personally I'd get a diesel Golf and call it a day.

As for the article itself, it's interesting to mention that 3-4 days after it was posted, it's still in "most viewed" table. lol Honda PR/marketing people (same as a**hol*s) must be going ape***t

The new Vectra already exists. Its called the Insignia, and it hasn't worked on me. Last time this happened, the Cavalier became the Vectra - I'd still rather have a Mondeo thanks.

Epic fail. The INSIGHT is the new Honda hybrid. The new Vauxhall is the Insignia, which by all accounts is actually quite good. If only they'd drop the Vauxhall brand and call it an Opel instead people might actually start buying them again.

No I did read it as Insight, and understand the fact that it is referring to a Honda not a Vauxhall, I am merely making the point that it is not the new Vectra. As described in the article, this is apparently much worse.

Maybe if OP had put "the new item of hatred" more people would have got the obvious reference?

Interestingly enough, the american talk radio show "The Rush Limbaugh Show" read this article in the 5/21/09 broadcast. He thought it was hilarious! images/smilies/lol.gif

There's nothing like listening in and hearing "Really, to get an idea of how awful it is, you’d have to sit a dog on a ham slicer" to send my TG alarm ringing.

I heard that Rush Limbaugh read part of this article on the air today. Didn't realize he was a fan of Jezza.

I don't think I'd call him a fan persay; his database searches probably pulled this article up. He is definitely anti-hybrid (words like "lil' put-put" and "lawnmowers with four seats" are the most frequent opinion). Let's hope he catches the bug!

Actually, the Insight is sort of smart, from a business standpoint.

It had to be two things, cheaper than the Prius and recognizably hybrid. As hybrid buyers don't care if the car is any good, no engineering money has to be spent on ride and handling (and it hasn't!), and hybrid buyers will forgive obvious corner cutting if they believe it's done for a green reason, so no need to make it out of decent materials (and they haven't!). I have no doubt that they're making money on every one, because most of the money was spent on styling and perhaps the hybrid bits, though I imagine a lot of that was lifted out of the Civic Hybrid.

Plus, you get that glowing hybrid press. It's doing its job, no need for it to be any good.

He knew that, fool. So no epic fail at all. Only on your part. He was just saying that Vauxhall have already replaced the Vectra with the Insignia. However Jeremy is obviously saying the Insight is the new symbol for hate in the car world.

Actually, you do have quite a good point there. If you read here, greenmobiles, including the Prius, are loss leaders for most manufacturers, with the only real benefit being in lovey-dovey press attention. Honda may actually be onto something here; crappy car, hippie-affordability, and they still get to make an evil corporate profit. images/smilies/twisted.gif

And I wouldn't have a Mondeo, either. Because, it's hugely overrated by Clarkson and fools who take his word as the fucking gospel.

"Driver's car"... "just as good as a BMW 3-Series". Oh fuck off... it's a mass produced repmobile primarily designed to cruise along the motorway by a outside lane hogger rep behind the wheel and if I were a 3-Series owner, I would take offence to have my BMW compared to something that has ZERO street cred.

And a 3 series isn't a "mass produced repmobile"?

Both serve the same purpose, one costs less than the other.

And this is why people don't like BMW drivers, because of an obsession with street cred. Well, Clarkson seems to think that's an Audi trend now, but no matter how good a BMW might be, you can't actually buy one, because you wouldn't want to be the type of guy who drives a BMW. Nobody likes BMW drivers, they're associated with people with expensive hair and ridiculous watches who will stop to polish their badge because they've got a BMW and want the world to know.

Ford doesn't have that baggage.
