Do you like Hammond?
I got fed up with him. I think he has no place on Top Gear. He just doesn't fit there. He hardly knows anything about cars (just his beloved 911), he doesn't really do much except screaming "I haven't had my teeth whitened!!" in his irritating voice. He doesn't add anything to the show, I'm beginning to think that he's only there to attract female viewers who think he's cute with his 'cool' hair style and clothes. He's ok for shows like Brainiac but that's it. He just wants as much publicity as possible, like after his crash, he immediately started to write a book and has been in 1000 interviews and over-dramatised things. Also, do you think Jeremy actually likes Hammond? They're sooo different, and I think Jeremy often finds him irritating and I hope he will replace him with someone better. |

Where did this come from? I like hammond, in the grand scheme of things none of them know too much more than the average high school student about cars.

As i've said in other threads, he is the most replaceable of the trio. And is the only one with no automotive journalism backround (IIRC) before top gear.
But he seems like a nice guy, and he does good reviews. So i guess i'm indifferent to the hamster.

Hammond is key to Top Gear. His enthusiasm for cars is more than obvious, and he bridges the gap to the younger audience as he is the youngest of the three by some way.
Top Gear is what it is because of the three of them collectively. I think Richard is an excellent presenter and I think he's perfectly entitled to talk about nearly dying in a book if he so wishes. To accuse him of "cashing in" quite frankly is a bit of a dig. The people of Great Britain were swept up in the accident, and there was lots of interest about his experience.

The thing to remember is that oversteer is best, because then you don't see the tree that kills you! Hammond That's a ticket to a festival of plastic death! I think he knows he's much less important to the show than Jeremy and James and that's why he wants to appear on every possible TV shows and writes a typical "I'm a celebrity"-book and such. I wonder how long the other two guys will bear it. |

Hammond is a great presenter. He has a lot of enthusiasm and a good attitude. He does good reviews and plays off the others perfectly. He definitely knows a thing or two about cars and I think the challenges usually show it pretty good. Jeremy has to get something that is just too much and over reaching but that is cool. James gets some antiquated silly thing that is the opposite of Jeremy's, but Richard seems to pick something that is neat and very reasonable, more like what the viewer would pick.
IMO he does a good job filling in the gap between the extremes of the other two. |

As the Evil Knievel documentary showed, Hammond definitely puts his enthusiasm to good use and does an excellent job conveying genuine emotion, something I think he does better than James or even Jeremy. I'd miss him if he left, as would many others here, I would imagine.

Richard Hammond is an absolute pleasure to watch. Top Gear wouldn't be the same without him, and thats it.
