Default Does TG audience get to feel up the cars?

Hi guys!

Just managed to DL some 02 shows with the fatman presenting.

Was watching the clip with a maybach 62.

It seems in the recent series, the audience wasn't able to touch and explore the displayed cars, while the ones in the maybach show simply molested the beautiful masterpiece no end

The question is when did top gear not let the audience touch the cars?

Was there any incident that led to the change?

Thanks for reading and answering! Just a TG fan here wanting to know more about this great motoring show

You're right, I just watched other 02 eps and there were people sitting in the cars.

And the fatman has a name: Jason Dawe images/smilies/smile.gif

^ just noticed something about 2002.10.27 images/smilies/smile.gif

At 20minutes31sec (after a hilarious news bit) you see a guy behind Richard with HUUUGE glasses that reflect like hell. Such a silly sight. images/smilies/lol.gif

If you watch the first episodes from the new format (2002->), there's only like 12 people in the audience, but now there's a long wait for tickets and every filming is packed. So I guess it's a practical issue, it's difficult for everyone in the audience get to sit and feel the cars during a filming... Maybe someone who has been to the filming can tell you how they're doing it...

James wrote in one of his articles that when they had the rolls royce 100EX in the studio he wasn't allowed to touch it because of it having a German guarding it, but that was because it was a concept car. Also the when the presenters used to talk about the car they would sometimes sit on the bonnet, that seems to have stopped too.
Yet when they give them car to test drive they're allowed to thrash it. images/smilies/wacko.gif

Yep. Its seems quite low grade in my opinion to have the audience in all sorts of funny positions when the presenters are hosting the shows. the 02 series suddenly seems very disorganised and gimicky.

but the worse thing is the cars probably getting scratched by the button jeans, doors slammed, cupholders broken off as souvenirs etc.. guess the people who lend TG the cars aren't too happy about that too

hm... I'm sorry for asking this question... but after a few series of top gear, i've been wondering about one thing

(I'm not saying its a bad show or anything, I love Top gear)
but... why do people go and see the show during filming?... aren't they only watching the television displays around the studios same as we are???... and plus the large amount of peoples' heads blocking each other, don't you miss some segments where you're just trying to poke out your head for a glimpse of the tv???

I've always thought by going there.. you get to sit in the cars and get to see how the cars really looks like in real life... but since you guys confirmed it... now what to they get for going there?

It would be hilarious to see Hammond give a review of a car while sitting cross-legged on the roof.

Because you get to meet the legend that is Jeremy Clarkson images/smilies/biggrin.gif Everyone who goes says how good it is so it must be worth going to, but it would piss me off if I was at the back and couldn't see anything so it would be a waste of time then.
