File format of the HD versions of next TG season?

In which format will the HD version of the next season be ripped? I'm asking because the test Episode, the polar special, doesn't work on my Playstation 3 without converting it completely. It's actually a but strange because the video in in x264 and the sound in AC3, both work, but not in combination with mkv.
So would it be possible the rip the episode so that they work (mp4,x264,ACC)?

Probably just got the idea from past discussion before season 10, where it was mentioned that it wouldn't be HD for S10, but would be for the next one.

Whatever, I agree that HD version of any show would be more useful in mp4 format.

I don't think that the container is that important. The mane difference is the codec of the video and that is in all cases x264.

You can bet your ass, that if the scene will do this (and in case TG gets HD treatment next season), it'll be a 1.5 Gb mkv and 720p... Also, if the codec isn't the problem, but only the container, its gonna be piss easy to get it to the container you like.

There are tons of software tools used to convert formats. Handbrake is fairly popular, as is AutoMKV (which, despite the name, does support all the most popular containers, including MP4), but as I don't own a 360, some others might be able to tell you their favorite tool.

Buba is absolutely right, I only need to change the container, like I said. I tried it with "Super" and "VLC Player", didn't work.
So I need a program that only changes the container but doesn't convert video or sound.

This is probably the best toll to remux mkv's into mp4/vobs: mkv2vob.

If you are using it for a 360, make sure in the settings you choose MP4 if you want teh video remuxed and only the audio converted. If you want both converted, you can use avi, which is what I would use.

For the PS3 I personally use vob files with x264 and AC3 because there is no "official" surround sound MP4 audio codec.

Edit: Just to clarify, remux means to put into another conainer without reconverting. To use MP4 you have to reconvert AC3 audio to AAC or MP3.

In the UK the BBC broadcast in 16:9, 1080i (HDTV) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_HD.

1080i provides a 1920-pixel horizontal resolution, greater than 720p's 1280 resolution

They were both. Some of us don't need the added higher definition of 1080p, but are quite happy with 720p.

Learn to read, Dude.
I wrote Scene, not BBC. The Scene does 720p rips for the the shows available in HD, 1,1GB for 42 min shows and 1,5GB if they are more like 50-60 min.

Also, huge FAIL, you didn't even read the source you quoted, as it says: "The broadcasts are typically at a resolution of 1440x1080i" so an anamorphic resolution. and not the 1920 wide you said.

Plus, this seems like a discussion about container, not codec or resolution...

I'm a little bit confused. The 1080p rip got 1440 pixel horizontal direction?

It's actually 1440 pixels, but it's anamorphic, means that for decoding the aspect ratio is changed so the dimensions come out as 1920. It's a trick to save bandwidth.

You guys do realize this is just a site that is for fans and the files on here are just "reposts" of scene releases right? If you want mp4 releases of HD Top Gear (any other news other than an old article from Hammond?) better get the lube out and get call up RiVER because there are far more reasons to release it as a mkv than a mp4. "able to play on a PS3/xbox" is fairly low on their list.


TV with VGA in + extra comp with optical out = screw a ps3!!!
