I want a new cheap car challenge, 09X03 was one i suppose, but it didnt have the same vibe as the italian supercars or Porsche one (So scripted i imagine the gas station women being presented with "lines").
MG Rover cars for less than 500? What ideas would you have? |

I think that if they ever wanted to do another American episode (although this would obviously work elsewhere) they could drive up the Pacific Coast Highway in cheap used convertibles. If they went in the fall, the weather could range from gorgeous to pouring rain and fog, both of which would test various aspects of the cars. Plus, the scenery is amazing and the road is quite entertaining.

A rover for under £500 is quite easy, since MG Rover went tits up the prices are been dropping ALOT, can get a Rover 75 with high mileage for 500.

Drive from John O' Groats to Lands End in cars worth less than 300 pounds. For a twist, rather than buying the cars for themselves to drive, they each purchase the car for another presenter (pre-chosen) to drive.
Say, Hammond would have to choose a car for Jeremy, James for Hammond, Jeremy for James. Naturally, they'd probably buy cars as ill-suited to the others as possible. I could imagine the laughs if Jeremy had to drive across the UK in a battered old Vauxhall Vectra, Richard had to drive a knackered Rover, and James in a hard-riding sportcar of some type. If they don't kill the other person (after all, could Jeremy stand driving a Vectra that far?), it'd be good entertainment. Last edited by Deanodriver; August 30th, 2007 at 2:56 AM. |

I like the idea of buying cars for other presenters, it would be a much more relevant way of trying to make each others lives miserable than simply painting slogans on the sides. The trick would be to get something that could still make it the distance, but be terrible the whole way. Would be fun to watch.

I'd like to see a Rolls/Bentley challenge for under 10k quid or something. Who knows!

Yep I like that idea as well!!! Perhaps 300 pounds is rather stingy. Not sure how much car you can get for what money in the U.K but say maybe 700/800 pounds. That way they can set pretty decent challenges without worrying about the fragility of the cars so much.

I want them to review the 2007 Ford Transit and compare to the Iveco Daily and Renault Master.

DeanoDriver got a fabulouso idea there
its funny when they buy cars for cheap for themselves, but i think buying cars for each other would be hilarious because you just know they'll go out of their way to buy something totally shite for the other to drive. |

I think another cheap car challenge would be good, but to get them to choose each other’s cars won’t make any difference to the choices. I am 100% sure the cars are carefully selected as it is to be JUST good enough to make it to the other end, but with some difficulty. If they really each had free choice for a £1500 porsche to complete a series of challenges they each would have turned up in a tatty but reliable 944, they wouldn’t have broken down, and it would have made for an extremely boring film.
It is really very easy to buy a car on eBay in the UK that will reliably drive from Lands End to John O’Groats (the two farthest points in our country, for the benefit of our American friends), all for less than the cost of a train ticket. Autocar did something similar not long ago and the car was faultless. The trouble is it would make for a very VERY dull film. I’m not complaining about them carefully choosing the cars, I think it is far better that they do it this way, and it is certainly what I would do. I think a really interesting piece would be to do a road trip in India, driving local cars that cost less than £50. India has some of the most incredible driving in the world, and the motorists there have no fear. Red lights for example are utterly meaningless, as are right-of-way laws, it would be very cool to see how the boys cope with that. |

How about cars made since the year 2000 that cost less than £2000?
